Frontlines looks pretty crappy from the footage I've seen and Bad Company is single-player.

Bad Company will have an actual singeplayer campaign, but it will also have good old bf multiplayer.

Araes, do you mean we have to remove ETQW and install the pbsetup first... then install ETQW?

Or just install the pbsetup and overwrite the current pb in system?

This would have been a great game if it were released beside BF2142 but today it's going to be released along side Frontlines and Battlefield bad company which both support destructable terrain and who knows what else.

This is exactly the problem. Even if they have different teams working on the coding, they still spend money on the salary for the people working on the bots that could be spent hiring more people to work on game balance or vehicle implementation.

For a game that is played online, bot support should be minimal.

I'm very curious how well this game is going to sell because it's just not good enough by todays standards. I am entertained when I play the game but nothing keeps me coming back.

This would have been a great game if it were released beside BF2142 but today it's going to be released along side Frontlines and Battlefield bad company which both support destructable terrain and who knows what else.

Playing this game feels like a stepping back in time for me. It's good, but it's still behind the times.

I think this game is going to end up like Supreme Commander, lots of hype and lands with a thud. (in my house anyway)

But whoever did the interface for joining online games should go teach the Xbox fuckers how to make a decent server browser of online games. It's so nice to get a list of servers, find the lowest ping, join and have a great time. Why does that prove an impossible task for console game developers? I F-N HATE the interfaces they make you go through to find online games. It's like they make them suck ass on purpose! (In fairness a few are ok...)

Writing code for bots means you have less time to write code for everything else. Such is the nature of deadlines and limited resources. I'd rather they just focus on polishing and balancing the multiplayer code.

I talk to some people I know and they really like bots. I think there is some demand for them. But remember that writing code for bots doesn't necessarily mean it's taking away time from writing code for something else.

How many people enjoy playing on servers with bots? The whole bots thing really seems like a waste of valuable programming time. The bots usually turn out crappy anyway, just like the UT bots, which either moved at a snail's pace and couldn't hit a damn thing, or hit you with every shot from their shock rifle while dodging circles around you.

There's two forum threads going on in the Quake Wars site regarding the problems with punkbuster. One deals with Windows XP and another Vista. I think an update for PB was put out late last night to address the Vista issues.

Most of the PB problems can be solved just by going to evenbalance website and downloading the pbsetup program and manually updating etqw pb files.

They broke r_mode -1 with this, so people can't use custom resolutions that aren't pre-existing modes. Sigh.

1920x1200 without AA, anisotropy and soft particles. everything else up. works fine @ 30FPS (yes i know...)

8800GTS 320 version. don't get to appreciate AA at that rez and certainly not in a twitcher like ETQW.

I got the latest drivers on my 256 MB x1950 pro.

I run 1280x1024 with everything maxed in the gui and if I go over 4x AA the game wont load. So I have to drop it down to 4 AA or less.

Also the server browser still sucks. If you use the filters and end your game session when you come back the filers are set. However the same filters that before showed you servers, now show all servers as hidden. You have to disable filters, get a new list, and then renable the filters.

Still the in game server browser shows you 20/24 or 23/24 or 19/24 I have seen and when you join a second after refreshing it says it's full. They need to make player queries on server more accurate.

This still fails to launch every time I turn on AA on my X1950 Pro but other than that, things do seem improved a bit. I actually hit something once in a while now.

All in all it's not exactly as good as I had hoped but it's still a helluva lot of fun if you get a server where people are working as a team.

That was always the problem with Wolf:ET.

But I think it is a great game. They just got to fix the problems. It is damn fun. The problem with playing pub (public) is just that. But when you get a nice small to medium game of players that know how to play, want to, and are just having fun, it is amazing. The possibility for strategy in that game is bar-none.

It sucks!
Let me tell you, this update sucks big time!

The new hit detection is awesome. However, it is causing a serious problem with Punkbuster, and the vast majority of people are getting kicked. It also causes the servers to repeatedly lockup briefly (do to the flooding of punkbuster data and such).

It is a damn fun game, and the new hit detection is great, but now when you are on a server with more then 6 people, it just becomes unplayable! On many servers you can not even change weapons or start firing with out a 3/4th of a second lockup.
