Don't worry about it, you'll be able to play an improved version very soon. The developers have said that they'll be releasing an MP demo before the game goes on sale, it ships July 2nd.

What's out now is essentially just an early demo with bugs. If it were a true beta they (A) Would have included all the levels, weapons and vehicles from the full game. (B) Would have given us access to the real beta forums rather then forumplanet, which is devoid of developer interaction. (C) Would have us test the latest builds, rather then this special public version that will never be updated. (D) Would have started the 'beta' months ago, when they had more time to tweak gameplay.

Don't get me wrong, I'm sure they'll gather valuable data about network performance and hardware issues. But they still could have done that while calling this what it is, an early demo.

Visit the forums at the main site for help and stuff..open to everyone.

I find that the game has a bunch of strategic/tactical elements but moves too damn fast to make full use of them.

I predict a slow down mod/server flip switch will come with the game.

Also:
either this map is too odd or turrets arent going to be useful at all. They are FREAKING HUGE and stick up over 8ft walls easily..
and no indoor turrets?

Old Tribes defenders will know what i mean..

Aye Jerykk, I also await a game that can match Tribes for its depth.

I fear those days are long gone though.

I remember the devs talking about how easy a Tribes mod would be for the game so... here's hoping.

on ET:qw - I am waiting for the demo but asymetrical teams + many hitscanning weapons + vehicles do not enamor me too much.

Once people do a few rounds of actually working towards the objective people seem to get bored and just want to deathmatch.

Of course it’s just one map set to rotate infinitely but the objectives aren’t very interesting, I think this is why in UT3 they’ve dropped Assault mode, you play it through a few times and then it gets old too fast, onslaught mode is repetitive but not asymmetrical, neither is conquest mode in BF2 – I think there’s something to be said about that.

For those who have been having problems with the vehicle controls, try enabling advanced vehicle control in the settings menu. Apparently there is some sort of auto-stabilization feature that is enabled by default, and advanced vehicle control turns it off. For me at least, the vehicles seem to control much more naturally if you enable advanced vehicle control.

This the problem with any team game and PUGs (pick-up games) rare is the time it meshes well. Games like this are really meant for active clans. If you're not in one you're doomed to an unsatisfying experience.

Update: Hmm, looks interesting. Can't say I care for the visual style, though. Still, I'll give it a go.

0 will give you the most FPS, at the cost of smoothness. This cost is subjective, some people don't notice it.

1 is the default, and is a compromise: it'll snap to multiples of 30 FPS.

2 is like 1 but more accurate at estimating cost of extra frames, and will hurt your FPS the most, but will be arguably the smoothest.

Ant, select 5:4 aspect ratio and then 1280x1024 will be available and you won't have to set console stuff.

At first, I wasn't impressed by the graphics, controls, etc. Then, the game started to hit me to like it more. I loved the original RTCW and Enemy Terrtory games. I actually like playing the Stroggs side. Weird for me since I am not a fan of alien race.

However, I can't seem to get 4.1 sound setup. Why only Stereo and 5.1? I also had to force 1280x1024. It kept giving me 1280x800! No wonder the graphics weren't nice (stretched look bad via VGA connection).

Still undecided to get the full game.

Under my documents there are base and sdnet directories. Each have config files. What's the difference?

Can't say I'm really enjoying the game. Too slow, it has vehicles and most of the weapons are hitscan and rapid-fire.

Though, can't say I've enjoyed any multiplayer shooters since Tribes. They've all felt so... limited.

If a good Tribes mod comes out for QW, I may give it a try.

im a quake fanboy from way back and i love this game.

ive found the learning curve a little bit harsh without a tutorial of some sort. so you do find a lot of your team running around not sure what the hell they are doing, but by now there is a lot of people who have it worked out and its good stuff.

also seems to run quite well on my pc and my pc isnt that good anymore!

As I play this beta more and more, I'm finding that it's really starting to grow on me. The interplay between the deployables, and (properly played) between the classes makes far some really cool team based gameplay. Now if only more people could figure out how to play (when I'm dropping med packs in front of you it's because you're injured and I'm trying to heal you, so FUCKING PICK THEM UP!) and start working as a team this game holds the potential to be very, very cool.

Thanks Space Captain. I've tried reading through the threads on the opfficeal site but yours is the easiest explanation I've seen of this. I've never encountered a game with a framerate control set up like this before, and left alone the 30 FPS limit looks like crap.
