WoW Patch & Bans

A new update for World of Warcraft is now available, bringing Blizzard's MMORPG to version 2.1.2. Manual patches are available for those who don't use auto-updates (which seems to be everyone), and downloads can be found on 3D Downloads, 3D Gamers (thanks Seth), FileFront, and FileShack. On a related note, Blizzplanet has word from Blizzard's Jeff Kaplan that the attunements for Serpentshrine and Tempest Keep have been eliminated, saying: "While many of our attunements in the Burning Crusade have been good progression checks, a few of the attunements have turned out to cause unnecessary stress on guilds either doing the content or attempting to do the content." Finally, on another WoW-related topic, the World of Warcraft Community Site has word that the Blizzard banning stick has been busted out once more:
In the US and Europe, we recently banned several thousand accounts associated with the use of botting programs that fully automate player actions, such as killing and looting monsters. We take these attempts to bypass the rules and standards of the game extremely seriously, and we will continue to aggressively monitor all World of Warcraft realms in order to protect the service and its players from the negative effects of cheating.

If you want an easy class then go play a warrior. 2k white crits without you doing anything challenging or that. Killing people in 3 secs and as many keystrokes? No problem.

Warlocks are different, they are powerful, but only are truly overpowered with a good player (or a bad one with very good gear and SL spec).
Have you ever seen a real skilled player with a warlock? You wont have a chance against him, no matter what class you are. The only way you can win is by having him outgeared by A LOT. And I mean a lot.
I remember how I owned most warlocks I met with my rogue (world PvP and BGs). And then when when I played against my friend (who is really, really skilled) I thought my char is broken, or someone thinks he can fool with me. But no, my friend had skills and an overpowered class. He even kills T4 equipped players in his green/blue equipped warlock. Thats not balanced.
And he played also many other chars to 70 already, and with them he didnt own nearly as much.
I also played a warlock to 60 before BC and I found him extremely boring. In PvP you really didnt have to sweat a bit. You saw that enemy player coming for you and you simply shrugged and owned him like hes level 20.
I even changed my spec several times to make it more challenging, but that would only work if I picked a PvE spec for PvP or something like that. Duel were so boring that I simply didnt accept any anymore, and if someone really wanted to duel I simply just used melee or my wand. It was so pathetic.
The better equip I got, the more pathetic my enemies looked. At the end I was T2.5 equipped and could own 3 players at the same time..........
And then I looked at the warlock boards and not a single warlock admitted that we were overpowered. No, they simply inveted some stupid excuses that they would use to defend themselves against "warlocks are overpowered" posts.
Thats when you notice how old the average WoW player is......

WoW is completely unbalanced in PvP. It always was, and BC didnt change a thing about it. Actually in some cases it made it even worse. I dont even want to mention how flying mounts destroyed world PvP even more.

I quit WoW aswell, not too long ago. And I feel really relieved now not being frustrated every single day so much that I want to smash my keyboard and drop a bomb on Blizzard.
Really glad its over.

Oh yeah I remember how I hated Sony for all their failures. Until I played WoW. After 4 weeks I knew that Sony was an angel compared to the shit that Blizzard pulls off all the time.
Now I am playing EQ again and I was never happier with an MMORPG.
I have given up on waiting for BIS to come back to their senses and do a real ArmA 2 successor.

Still like to play, still play the majority of the game solo, still wish for a bit more solo content. I am intrigued, and never considered, the idea of 1-3 man dungeons or raids, that would be sweet. I got a good guild that will actually run 5-10 mans with me, so I am lucky, but a lot are left behind at 60+ as any player knows most PUG's (pick up groups) suck. Hard. Of course, I was yelled at because its a mmorpg last time I made this comment here, but the fact that I am on a server with 50,000 other people, half running around in circles or dancing naked on a fountain for no reason because they didnt take their ritalin, does not mean I have to play with them.

I appreciate the bans, but they are not too accurate. I continue to be gold spammed in the game still, THIS is a priority. A friend recently got a 3 day suspension for "exploiting the economy". Apparently Blizzard is unfamiliar with buying things at a low price, then reselling them at a markup, something they might notice when they stop at Starbucks on the way into work this morning.

Never played LOTRO

What sort of stuff did they have you do in the 1man instance? Did the content vary by class?

i stopped playing WoW months ago once i hit 70, finished all the quests and rep grinding i could do and realised i didnt have anything to do.

i still think 1 or 2 man instances would be a cool idea. i loved the 1man instances in LOTRO beta when i played it.

Difficulty wasn't the problem.

The problem was group sizes and logistics.

Running 5 * 5man groups != balanced 25 man groups.
Likewise with Karazhan. You either have 2.5 groups and cycle some people out, or you have 3 groups and 5 people get screwed for the 25 mans. It was just bad set up. Your small number of (tanks or healers, generally the smallest set) will get burned out on running 5 mans to attune every new guild member in order to get enough folks together to consistently hit 5 mans.

They should have made Gruul and Magtheridon the only gates on SSC and TK. If you can't take them down, you'll likely not do well in SSC and TK anyway. They're simple to get to and have no requirements themselves. Heroics and 5 mans are just for gearing up to those things, not a forced set of hoops to jump through in order to get to something else.

I think changing the attunement pattern was a good idea. Simply removing it altogether doesn't seem to be the best thing, but whatever. If you can't hack Gruul + Mag, then you'll be banging your head against SSC and TK for a while anyway.

But seriously, does anyone believe that the SSC/TK attunements were a miscalculation? I know it's tinfoil hat territory but Blizz has traditionally "fixed" content to be easier once either a) the new content is finished or b) the existing content is well and truly on farm by everyone who has any interest in being there, allowing everyone else in.

I don't think it was a matter of difficulty, but rather a matter of fun. There's not really a good reason to have the attunement for TK in place since it's not a gear or skill or organization check, it's just a grind.

Nothing in WoW even comes close to the pain in the ass key quests and flagging (attunement in WoW) that Everquest had.

Anyone play EQ and raid Vex Thall? That key quest took several weeks (if you were lucky with drops) and a couple of months or more was quite common as well. How about Planes of Power where you couldn't even get into most of the zones without doing multiple raid events. This was the primary reason I quit EQ to begin with.

WoW's requirements for stuff like this, do not even come close to how bad it was in EQ.

Exactly, they were not. And the SSC/TK attunement aren't even particularly hard. Getting revered with every corresponding faction, and then completing the quests could be done in a couple weeks worth of casual play for TK. During those weeks, your guild runs the T4 level instances for the gear needed, which in turn gets you your SSC attunement. That is Blizzard's way of extending the content, so that only the top guilds in the world are progressing faster than normal.

The people complaining about "endless rep grind" perplexes me also. There is nothing that is not optional (mounts and items primarily) in the game that requires any reputation grind. You could argue TK attunement, but that doesn't take more than a week's worth of play time.

I am all for anything that reduces the number of f#cking retarded grinds required to attune for various places.

I don't mind b. so much because there are a lot of really amazing encounters in the game that haven't been seen by most of the populace, but a. suxs.

So if they are as misguided with the "banning stick" as they are with the threatening emails

How do you know your acct wasn't hacked and someone else is using it? Or did they tell you that the account was actually inactive?

Locks are overpowered... Isn't easy-mode kinda boring?

We are all just pushing a bunch of buttons to get a cookie.

"Fear is overpowered." "Warlock DPS is overpowered." "X warlock spec is overpowered for Y reason."

I know this isn't you saying this...so don't think Im saying this directly to you.

Keep getting Feared? Get better resist gear. DPS, yes we do a lot of damage...what else should we do? A lot of Warlock utility is gone now...

Healthstones are virtally useless now with people having 10,000+ hit points, making the Talent useless as well.
Summon...well summon stones only require 2 people where Warlocks require 3. Yes our summon can be usefull if your group is deep inside and the other person will run to the instance themselves (normally they wont, they want the group to go out and summon them), or if your group is hunting outside. But for the most part it goes unused.

We have crap for Armor. If a Lock for some reason does not go for Stamina gear, then our HP's are really low and can be killed easily.

This is why I don't get involved in class envy discussions, or even follow them. Most people are just looking at the small picture... "oh he does more damage than me!" and then get vocal about it.

Get a 70 or 2 to help out, and you can pretty much duo/trio DM West.

Think about this for a minute...I've been playing again for 2 weeks and was 58 (now 64). How many lvl 70's do you think I know? The guild I joined is mostly twinks, so I dont have the resources for the guild help yet.

They accused me of making ethnically disparaging remarks and threatened to ban me. The funning thing is, I haven't had an active account for almost a year and couldn't possible have been in game Sunday cracking Jewish jokes. So if they are as misguided with the "banning stick" as they are with the threatening emails, I'd be sure to contest what every account action they make.

I play a Warlock...I don't follow (nor care about) the class envy discussions so I don't know what that is about.
Spend 5 minutes reading the Warlock discussion forum on the official site, and you'll notice the multitude of "Fear is overpowered." "Warlock DPS is overpowered." "X warlock spec is overpowered for Y reason."

As for the mount... I've been playing a warlock since last August, so I got mine way before BC. Most new warlocks (and paladins who are in the same boat) I see just get guildmates to help them out. Get a 70 or 2 to help out, and you can pretty much duo/trio DM West. At least with gold being so readily available in BC, raising the money for the materials and items for the quest is not a problem.

And if they gave warlocks a quested flying mount (which I think would be awesome), they'd have to give paladins one too.

Are you still on Kilrogg Ray? I'm playing on Twisting Nether (RP-PvP). Realyl wish I was allowed to transfer my Hunter from Kilrogg to Twisting Nether.

Haha, no warlock changes. Suck it, warlock haters!

I play a Warlock...I don't follow (nor care about) the class envy discussions so I don't know what that is about.

But I am really disappointed that they haven't given Warlocks an alternative to complete their lvl 60 Dreadsteed mount. Simply put they really made the former lvl 55 - 60 dungeons obsolete. Why waste time doing those dungeons when you can get better gear at lvl 58 in Outland by doing a few quests?

This has left Warlocks, whom require Scholo and Dire Maul runs to complete their epic, finding it very hard to get anyone to goto these places.

Furthermore, the frickin lame ass LFG tool that removes dungeon options when you have exceeded the level requirement, along with not being able to join the /LFG chat unless you are queued.

I've only been back playing the game for a couple weeks now, but I feel really bad for those that have been trying to do this quest for awhile.

Not to mention they didn't give Warlocks a quest to get the Flying mounts either. From Blizzards own mouth, questing for the mounts was supposed to be a main feature of being a Warlock.

I still use the blizzard downloader... I mean... It's an amazing use of the bittorrent idea, where people leave their download open for hours before clicking OK so they can play the game...

Seriously though, the servers are still down... No need to rush and get the download while waiting for them to come up... Which has been delayed at least once... could turn into that day not long ago where the updates took 2-3x as long... hell on earth I says... : )
