Armed Assault to Expand

505 Games, Bohemia Interactive Studios, and Black Element Software announce ArmA: Queen’s Gambit, an upcoming expansion for ArmA: Armed Assault (A.K.A. Combat Operations), due in the third quarter of this year. Word is the add-on will offer a pair of new campaigns, and the release also makes mention of the version 1.08 patch (story) that allows the European and North American editions of the game to compete on the same battlefield:
505 Games is proud to announce the official expansion pack for its critically acclaimed title ArmA: Armed Assault - considered the most realistic tactical combat simulation ever made - entitled ArmA: Queen’s Gambit. The ultimate test of human war skills has reached its climax!

Key Elements

- Two new story based campaigns

· Rahmadi Conflict: The true conclusion to the original ArmA story, with enormous battles taking place within massive fortifications on the Rahmadi Island and brand new Porto Island.

· Royal Flush: 18 months after the original conflict, a group of seasoned mercenaries arrives to help the government with a sensitive matter that the army can‘t handle by itself any longer. However, there is something highly suspect about this job…

- New Multiplayer Missions

· Urban Raid: A cooperative multiplayer scenario designed for a group of six battle-hardened Special Forces soldiers.

· Battle of Porto: A “capture and hold” scenario for forty players on a brand new and beautiful sandy island of Porto.

- Final patch 1.08

The latest patch brings to the ArmA world new weapons, vehicles and characters, along with a new resource management feature and gun dealers. It also brings dozens of multiplayer and technical improvements, which finally enables North American players fight on the same battlefields as the International community.

The only game I have ever gotten Best Buy to return was Battlecruiser 3000AD. Thank god the store manager was a pc gaming junkie and knew how bad it was.

I'm not a fan of this game but it seems to me with such an emphasis on realism and a renderer that can do such massive landmasses that it would be a natural for a persistant online experience.

Can you buy it somewhere with a 30 day return policy like (perhaps) Best Buy? I'm not sure in what country you are living.

What kind of fucking store lets you return opened software? The kind with CD KEYS? Certainly not my Best Buy.

Thanks 'the culture'. Those look blurry which is odd. I guess it's trying to simulate a focus area. Nevertheless I don't see much new content in those shots.

SirKnight yes that seems to be a good interpretation. Thanks.

Not seeing much to entice me to buy this expansion. $10? Maybe. $30? Nah.

I would presume that "Final patch 1.08" means that it's a patch for the final release of the game and not a beta or demo version of it. Hence the "latest" bit in the blurb about the update.

I'm having more problems with 1.08 than with any other version. The game likes to crash to the desktop with texture memory allocation errors almost instantly. It seems it's worse with an 8800 (which I have).

This announcement implies 1.08 is the final patch? Are we not seeing any more patches? Is this true? That would be really unfortunate because the game needs a lot more optimization, fixes, features, etc etc etc. This game is fun, but it is not finished.

Ven3ance it's quite good, but not perfect. It's not trying to be arcade-like. Compared with the BF series, it's less polished with the user interface, but it's also more immersive. Can you buy it somewhere with a 30 day return policy like (perhaps) Best Buy? I'm not sure in what country you are living.

It's good, and its also a nice contrast (for me) to playing BF2142. I like both games for their own reasons. 2142 is much more of a finished game, imo. There are certain clunky aspects to ArmA, like how many animations need to finish before you get control of your soldier. For example, when you fire your RPG and want to arm your rifle, it can take a while.. You can't just throw the RPG down and arm the rifle quickly.

I'm not interested in new content until the game fucking works on my system. It's the best 15 minute spans of military simulation ever, I guess.

Is this game any good? I played the demo & hated it. But I also played Operation Flash point & LOVED it. Maybe the demo was a crappy demo & the game is much better?

Except that North American players and International players can play on the same servers with the 1.08 patch that's already out.
