Fallout 3 Teaser Movie

The well teased Fallout 3 teaser movie is now online, a game engine clip offering the first look at Bethesda's upcoming continuation of the RPG series. The movie is up on the Fallout Website featuring a soundtrack by The Ink Spots and the voice of Ron Perlman. In addition to the streaming QuickTime clip, they offer links to mirrors where the movie can be downloaded in a couple of different formats. The teaser concludes promising a fall 2008 release.

I take back all the bad things I said about their original teaser site, this new teaser made me very happy.

Except for the Fall 2008 bit!

1st has no meaning when you post nothing.... am I right?

As far as the video goes it looks ok but gives us little more than a look at what the game may (or may not) look like if it actually is using in-game assets.

Per Pete (aka the Father of Lies):
1) Yes, that's in-engine (in-engine means it's done with game assets in our rendering engine, but isn't done real-time. If it was done in real-time, that'd be gameplay footage. This isn't something, for example, that was sent to some house [e.g. Blue Studios] so they could build assets and render it out, and create something for us to release [e.g. Dawn of War 40K intro cinematic]).
2) Yes, that's The Ink Spots singing "I Don't Want to Set the World On Fire"
3) Yes, that's Ron Perlman [voiceover man extraordinaire of Fallout 1 and 2].

So for me I am glad I was not pulled in by the count down. I can only hope for what the game-play video will eventually show us but until that time this remake of an intro only makes me wonder. Do they have any idea what they are implying by rehashing the original intro?

Of course if they release a game with turn-based or even optional turn-based combat I would probably shit myself.

My guess is that they're implying that this is a Fallout game.

I'm happy that they might be trying to capture the feel of the original games, at least with this. I just hope they're not trying to make a plain shooter. I want something like Oblivion (only less fugly... yes, the terrain and places looked incredible, but the NPC/characters in the game had no "character"), or Deus Ex, but as bloody, comical, and heartless as Fallout and Fallout 2 were.

The actual game will be top down or 3/4 view pixelated characters running around? then this teaser is meaningless..

I'm actually sorta encouraged by the 'Fall 2008' release date. That means they'll have had nearly two years working full steam with all of BethSoft's resources (and more with a smaller team before that. It'll all be running on an engine that's already had over a year of public release to get bugs worked out. If they can't pull out something that puts Oblivion to shame given the depth and variety present in the Fallouts and all the time they've had to work on it...I can only hope their offices, with all hands, end up in another dimension. With evil bees.

I'll believe this lives up to the series the moment I see the credits roll after blowing up the final boss. It won't, in many ways, but if it can keep me engaged and entertained not only the first time through but the sixth, like Fallout/2, I'm sold. Fallout 2 still holds my record for longest single gaming session (84 hours, set long, long ago), and if they top that, I'll tattoo their name on myself.

And, should worse really come to worse, we've always got the community to balm our collective wounds with their tweaks, mods, and TCs.

Have to say, while I'm terribly looking forward to this game -- and I hope they stay true to what makes Fallout, well Fallout -- the graphics quality of the trailer was not impressive! Granted, the style was there... the music, zooming out of the radio, the lone character surveying the city wasteland. And don't get me wrong, I'm hoping for style over graphics.... just the same, the engine looked terribly dated. Here's hoping they used an existing engine (Morrowind) and/ or didn't spend too terribly much time with the eye candy. After playing through STALKER, which felt all of a 3D Fallout to me, I would at least hope for a semi modern graphics engine for F3.

This definitely has potential. I just hope Bethesda hires some QA people this time.
