F.E.A.R. S.E.Q.U.E.L. P.L.A.N.S.

The Name Your Fear Website offers the "Name the sequel to F.E.A.R. contest," which should ease any fears that there would be no follow up to Monolith's scary first-person shooter (thanks IGN) as they seek a name, or perhaps acronym, for the sequel. Once one convinces the site's virtual bouncer they are of age, the following explanation can be found:
Monolith is excited to offer our loyal community the unique opportunity to name the sequel to F.E.A.R.! We will be accepting name submissions from June 4th, 2007 to June 22nd, 2007. Submissions will be narrowed down to 3 finalists who will receive an all-expense paid trip to Monolith to meet the development team and tour our facilities. Additionally, each of the 3 finalists will have their name and likeness included in the game! Once the 3 finalists have been chosen, voting will be open to the public from July 23rd, 2007 to July 27th, 2007 to let our fans decide the name that will take this exciting franchise to the next level.

If a game makes me say these words out loud in shock and surprise (even on the second and third playthrough), I want to hear the other characters in the game saying them too.
You seriously need to get out and get a life. FEAR wasn't shocking or surprising - it certainly had nothing in it to make me utter obscenities out loud. Perhaps you should stop talking to your computer and get your gutter mouth sorted out... or perhaps you shouldn't play games with mature content until you're at least 13.

The repetitiveness of the cursing was the problem not the presence of it. Sure I expected it in the game especially given the plot and characters, but I didn't expect to hear it constantly out of almost every character's mouth. It ruined the credibility of the dialog by making it seem contrived, and it got old as the game wore on.

Sorry, but if I kept seeing a scary dude eating people's faces, an army of well-armed soldiers gunning for me, and a creepy little girl in a red dress, the first - and probably the most PROMINENT - thing out of *my* mouth would probably be "The F-Word".

I enjoyed the swearing. It made me feel like I was playing an ADULT game, rather than some sugar-coated piece of shit mainstream turd title. If a game makes me say these words out loud in shock and surprise (even on the second and third playthrough), I want to hear the other characters in the game saying them too.

Really wasn't inappropriate given the setting. Combat soldiers cuss like you wouldn't believe, especially the more arrogant SF/Delta types.

Besides, the game's rating was Mature anyway.

which you did not understand when you jumped in and criticized it.

No. I jumped in and told everybody that about the acronym thing, not just you. As all but ~5 of the post before mine had acronyms in it. Why are you taking it as I attacked you and now trying to insult me? Maybe you did not read anybody else's post and see that every freakin' body was making acronyms? Hell, I made one too and submitted it for a name! I was just informing people, ya tard!

And hint, I call everything and everybody tards, even my self. If you have no life you can view my post history, good luck finding one where I do not call somebody or something a tard, ya tard!

Dear Enahs,

I made a reference to an episode of the Office in my original post, which you did not understand when you jumped in and criticized it. I poorly attempted to explain it in my second post, even though you had no frame of reference, like a child who wanders into the middle of a movie.

(P.S. since explanations are necessary: That last phrase was taken from the Coen brothers' 1998 film The Big Lebowski.)

>>The AI wasn't as good as you think, they just did the audio and visuals really well and gave the immersion of the AI being really smart.

The word you are looking for is "impression", not immersion. And AI is, by definition, ARTIFICIAL.

I did like FEAR, but I hope they also do another NOLF. Loved both of those.

As opposed to NOLF 2.5, which was Contract J.A.C.K., of course.

Whoops, guess I stepped in it there... i'd forgotten that tidbit, given I don't give a damn about Monolith.
Guess they've got guys like CJ running their show given they've got rights to an imaginary world, but not the name of the world. Too funny...

Walmart brains, eh? Guess you'd know. Had a coupon when you picked yours up... I understand. I'm surprised it didn't cease when you made the effort on that paragraph. Do they warranty that shit? If you actually use it to think with (i know you don't usually) do they cover it if it breaks?

Well, fuck F.E.A.R 2 then...
Let them just name it 2. Drop the FEAR, it wasn't really scary anyhow.
Costinak's not a problem, he has design following his moniker.

'We had two bags of grass, five sheets of high powered blotter acid, a salt shaker half full of cocaine...'

Insofar as AI is concerned, the NPCs were incredible for the time.
What other FPS game would have NPC's knock scenery over to create cover.

I think it should be A.N.D.L.O.A.T.H.I.N.G.I.N.L.A.S.V.E.G.A.S. actually. Let them work out the copyright crap themselves.

That's all it takes. These guys have a lifespan of what, 5 seconds tops? There isn't enough time for them to actually be smart, so it's not worth making them smart. You just have to make them seem smart. Taking cover, throwing over tables, crawling under debris? Maybe the reason for doing it wasn't intelligent and it's just a script "if near X 20% chance of doing Y" but that's all it takes.

Compare it to Quake 4's "stand there and occasionally return fire" AI...
