I was sick of wow as well but I can't really get into lotro, my captain is level 25 and i find that some of the quests that are 2 or more levels bellow me arnt overly soloable due to respawns and sheer no. of mobs.
Its ok but wether i keep playing it or not i don't know, i think im mostly just sick of the quest grind from playing wow for 2 years+.

while wow allows mods, blizzard at least at first and probably still are completley anal about giving mod makers some options and often cull anything they dont like by adding a "fix" to its function next patch.
Turbine are still considering giving some level of modding to LOTRO players. Currently you can only "skin" the interface.

They have stated later they will give access to in-game variables so at least we can create our own UI elements, like replacing existing unit frames and additing "Fubar" functionality. Much later (much, much later) they MAY release the programming interface. (I'd look for the link to it, but I'm just too lazy. It's SOMEWHERE on their forums).

To tell you the truth, I'd be happy with just being able to make my own UI display elements. While the programmable WoW addon's are great, it's too easy to take it too far and nobody wants to go through the UI nerf cycle again and again.

Aside from that, this a great game for those of us sick of WoW. It has some refreshingly new ideas, and anothers that take a bit of change in mindset to get used to. The classes are different. The concept of morale over hit points is different, but fits nicely into the setting. The PvMP is a blast. After the last two abysmal failures, I think Turbine's finally got it right again.

Hows the endgame raid environment going? Is it wowish, or something different or is it too soon?

Randal Graves: Oh, I'm crazy? Those fuckin' hobbit movies were boring as hell. All it was, was a bunch of people walking, three movies of people walking to a fucking volcano.

Here, let me re-create the movies for you....

Randal Graves: All right, look, there's only one "Return," okay, and it ain't "of the King," it's "of the Jedi."
Hobbit Lover: Oh, Star Wars geek.
Randal Graves: Oh, I'm the geek? Look at you two whipping out your preciouses.
Elias: You'll have to excuse him, he's not "down" with the trilogy.
Randal Graves: Oh, what the fuck happened to this world? There's only one trilogy, you fucking morons.
Hobbit Lover: You know what, maybe we should start calling your friend Padme, 'cause he loves Manakin Skywalker so much, right?
[in robot voice]
Hobbit Lover: Danger danger, my name is Anakin. My shitty acting is ruining saga.
Elias: [chucking] Yeah, you're crazy Jar-Jar.
Randal Graves: Oh, I'm crazy? Those fuckin' hobbit movies were boring as hell. All it was, was a bunch of people walking, three movies of people walking to a fucking volcano.

I've actually been enjoying going around the shire and reading the stories. The emerging danger outside the shire seems like you're reading a book and as you complete quests it seems to get you closer to where the danger is and you hear more about it... to the point where there is real anticipation to arrive in a city and participate in the problems they're having.

That said, I still wish there was more feedback in relation to combat. Especially with buffs. I play a minstrel and can never tell what buffs are on at any one time as the buffs only last 30 seconds max (at my level at least).

I also like the deed system (wish you didn't have to visit a minstrel to add them as I can never find), but wish there were also talents.

The upgrading of the spells automatically is nice, but I wish there was a notification marker, like the one's for deeds accomplished/discovered, saying that you learned a new level of "fireball". Your spell will now do x dmg... Next lvl "x dmg." Make gaining levels more rewarding. Right now, I barely seem to notice that I ding.

I also think they've made a very poor judgment call to not allow for any modifications other than ui. This is part of what makes WoW so alluring... I'm the one playing, let me play it how I want and not how you want me to.

Lastly, and this may be seen as either of a negative or a positive, it doesn't have that just one more quest/turn pull of other games. I can happily play for an hour and say well, I've done enough and log. WoW, I always wanted to stay on. This may have more of an impact in end game where raids last hours, and I may be wishing I could just have logged at an earlier point.

Overall, I'm at lvl 14, still inside the shire and enjoying the game.
