Blizzard Beta Plans

The BlizzCon - Goodies And Swag Page (thanks Joystiq) has word on goodies for attendees of Blizzard's upcoming BlizzCon event. In addition to BlizzCon entrance, the $100.00 entry fee will also net participants an in-game murloc suit for a World of Warcraft character and a beta key to test an upcoming Blizzard game, a prospect sure to excite those interested in StarCraft II, though which game this is for is unspecified.

It's pretty sad that beta testing has become a promotional tool. And that people are willing to pay money to do it.

It's pretty sad that you can't comprehend that people were already signing up at $100 for BlizzCon and has nothing to do with a Beta key. This is just a bonus for those already going, and they are hoping they will get a few more sign ups from people sitting on the fence of whether to go or not.

Your tunnel vision is pretty amazing sometimes Jerykk, along with the other idiots that break this down to $100 for a beta key like there is no convention on the other end.

If you are stupid enough to pay $100 to get the beta key and the murloc suit and then not go to the convention, that is the individuals choice, but not what Blizzard is offering.

I used to think this way too, but then I realized that the pay "beta test" label was just a way to attempt to legitimize what amounts to charging for a demo. Not that that's an excuse.

I wouldn't be surprised if this beta test is for another game, possible an expansion... if it were for SC2 they would have just said it, since it's already been announced.

Oh, sorry, I was under the impression that $100 for entrance into a one-company convention wasn't a good price. Sorely mistaken.

How does one make the leap from "$100 entry fee to real-life convention with extras" to "$100 to beta test" or do you go buy games from stores and complain when you pay $50 for a manual, despite the game being part of the deal.

Heh, it's 'teh intarweb', gross over exaggeration for the win.. = \

Mmmm only $100 to beta test a game. I'm also so much more interested.

Starcraft II?

Or some unannounced XBLA or PSN game?

I'd be shocked if it was SCII, unless it was some ultra-time-limited, just-before-release kind of things.

I had fun leveling to 70 in WoW. When I hit 70 I was faced with 2 choices.

1) roll another toon and redo all the same freakin content like all my guildies who had 3-5 level 70 toons.

2) spend my life grinding rep so I could endlessly run end game raids for gear that won't matter the next time Blizzard increases the level cap.

Needless to say I canceled about 5 days after hitting 70.

Community features in wow? hahahaha no.

I love Murlocs. I'd love to have a Murloc suit (haha great suit). And as I've never been an RTS fan SC2 does bupkiss for me. Diablo 3 though and we're talking!
