Ships Ahoy - Shadowrun

Microsoft Game Studios announces that Shadowrun is heading to North American stores for Windows Vista and Xbox 360. We lost our decoder ring, so the s are still a mystery, but here's the announcement:
Time to teleport, glide and summon your minions! Microsoft Game Studios is launching Shadowrun onto retailers across North America.

Starting today, humans, elves, dwarves and trolls can join the cross-platform revolution with Shadowrun at the estimated retail price of $59.99 (U.S.) for Xbox 360 and $49.99 (U.S.) for Windows Vista. Shadowrun is rated M for Mature by the Entertainment Software Ratings Board (ESRB). Shadowrun is also part of the Games for Windows. initiative, offering reliability, compatibility and enhanced experiences on Windows Vista..

Additionally, Xbox 360 gamers can get in on the action with the official Shadowrun demo on June 6. The demo will be available for download via Xbox LIVE. Marketplace.

The innovative first-person shooter (FPS) gameplay of Shadowrun, developed by FASA Studio, thrusts gamers into strategic battles that utilize magic and technology. Players must vie for supremacy, playing as a human, elf, dwarf or troll. Cleverness, cunning and split-second improvisation are rewarded through a unique combination of modern weapons, ancient magic and advanced technology. As the first game to support Microsofts Games for Windows LIVE service, Shadowrun gives players on both Xbox 360 and Windows Vista a chance to compete, cooperate and communicate across both platforms with an Xbox LIVE Gold or Games for Windows - LIVE Gold account*.

Shadowrun will ship with nine unique maps and an additional three map variations, showcasing dynamic environments set in a futuristic Santos, Brazil, and its neighboring ancient Ziggurat. Shadowrun includes six training chapters, letting gamers fine-tune their strategy and lethal combinations against the intuitively smart and talented A.I. bots. Gamers can also play with bots at four levels of difficulty on every map and with every game type.

I am going to rent this for the 360 only. Not only do I not run Vista but FASA Studio has been shuttered now that this has been completed and I don't think there's going to be any support for it.

Have you ACTUALLY used Vista or do you base your opinions purely on the FUD that gets spread around?

What the hell are you talking about, it's Shadowrun! It's a followup to the classic action/RPG for SNES and Sega based on the tabletop RPG Shadowrun! There's no way its just some lousy generic FPS with absoulutely nothing to do with its intriguing and awesome heritage! No way! I'll belive that as soon as I see a third person lousy action game with "X-Com" in the title, or a first person Fallout. It's neva, fricken, happenin.

Yes actually I have it sucks compared to XP at least in most games that is the ones that came run on it with out crashing.
Ive un-installed it and am back to XP and Linux with eye candy which by the way looks ten times better than the vistas Aero crap and is actually useful.

Oh and I paid 25.00 bucks for Vi$ta ultimate from a buddy that works for M$ and I stll feel ripped off.

Exactly, the only reason they're doing this is because it's published by Microsoft, and they're trying to push their new overpriced and mostly unnecessary OS. Pretty weaselsome when the game could easily be done on DX9, just like Halo 2.

Perhaps if they ever release Gears of War on the PC it will have a new integrated "futuristic accounting minigame" that requires you own the latest version of Microsoft Works.

In my job, I setup probably two dozen PCs a week in customer's homes and have done well over 100 Vista systems since it launched. The vast majority of what's being said about Vista is true. Not all of it but most of it. It's slow, UAC is a massive headache, there are compatibility problems all over the place and many "final" manufacturer drivers are riddled with bugs and instability. All this for a lot of eye candy and several new features that don't at all warrant the headaches. After the first service packs come out and baseline PCs start shipping with 1GB RAM, things will improve I think.

Don't believe the hype! I've been running Vista for over 2 months now and I have at least 25-30 games installed and I have encountered problems with ONE game that was Vista related. I'd think that's a pretty good average. Bitch and moan about Vista all you want even though in a year or so everyone will eventually be moving to it.

When you look at benchmarks at gaming websites it is clear that directx 9 games on Vista run more slowly than the same game running on direct 9 on XP. For gamers who want speed, Vista, at least at the moment, is a platform to be avoided. There's also no truly compelling reason to use Vista for any purpose right now assuming you know how to secure XP properly.

Not as long as my XP disc continues to function. Maybe after a service pack or two fixes the major issues, and there are enough DX10-only games that are actually worth playing. That will probably take a while.

You babies should learn to dual boot vista along with xp. If you spent half the time you do bitching about vista as you did setting up a dual boot, you would be done and playing this crap game.

it's not the setup time, the crappy performance or the lack of drivers that keeps me from using Vista. It's mostly the $200+ price tag. Someone set me up with one of those $25 copies and then I'll stop bitching

No thanks. You can waste your life tweaking Vista and playing this crap game, the rest of us have better things to waste our lives and our $60 on.

$60 for a glorified Counterstrike mod that requires Vista for no reason other than MS marketing.

Let me emphasize again, THERE IS NO TECHNICAL REASON FOR THIS GAME TO BE VISTA-ONLY. Just as there was none for Halo 2. Are you seeing a trend here?

I'll install Vista when there's good reason to, and this game ain't it.

I can only hope the game fails and helps shut the studio down...
I will get Vista when I have a reason to...maybe in six months.
Naively wishing,

Enforcer was so very, very terrible. I played it to the end and I have no idea why. Halfway through I was wishing for the pain to end.
