Out of the Blue

As previously mentioned, it's Memorial Day here in the US, hopefully we'll pay some due respect along the way as is worthy of the occasion as we cookout and otherwise frolic.

That in mind, we are indeed also frolicking a bit here at the BlueTower… We've rounded up some cattle and we're firing off the grill this afternoon, so cue up the Aaron Copland soundtrack and the Sam Elliott voiceover.

It's always a good time to go to the Keys.

Seriously, the tourist season (January-April) has slowed down, so you'll be able to find some deals. Which section of the Keys do you plan on hitting?

Was considering heading down to the Keys. Any idea if it's a good time for it? Perhaps I'll head down Savannah way for a little genteel experience.

Heather can answer better on the Keys, as she used to live there.

As for Savannah -- beautiful city, but right now may not be the best time. Lots of fires in S Ga/N Fl (we actually drove to Jax via Savannah to avoid the worst areas on I-75/I-10, since both keep getting closed) and the entire area is often very smoky/hazy, with a perpetual smell like a BBQ.

Why Jacksonville?

Father-in-law lives in Jacksonville (just moved there last fall from Wichita -- guess which one everyone prefers?).

Mother-in-law lives in Tampa.

We'll hit Orlando at some point, but not this trip -- not enough time or $$$.

But then again, maybe not. Looks likes yet again I will have nobody to vote for.

For me, the Republican party is filled with a bunch of reactionary throwbacks that refuse to see the world for what it is; the Democrats have proven flaky in their stance on Iraq.

Listening to this last Republican debate was like watching a glorified history of Ronald Reagan - whom I do respect - but come on, his era is long long past. Time to move on guys.

Speaking of vacations, I've missed mine, as I've been convalescing. I think I may head down south somewhere for a few days before heading back to work though. Great to hear Z that you and Heather got away to relax! Good times!

As for Lube, which do you prefer Enahs, 10W-30 or 10W-50?

Actually, 5W-30 is generally considered the best for newer model cars and engines.

But since I need a lube for high performance and larger then normal engine I use a synthetic blend

Hope everyone is having a great Memorial Day weekend -- currently sitting on the balcony of our hotel room, staring out at the ocean and the pool and enjoying the breeze. Having an absolutely stunning vacation (we were in Jacksonville for 3 days, and will be in Tampa/St. Pete for 2).

Kick ass hotel room too -- the living room area is larger than most normal hotel rooms.

Just waiting for Heather to get back from the store with some food for the kids (who are blissfully sleeping).

I took a slutty girl to Boogie Nights and after the show she wasn't slutty anymore. It ruined everything, but I liked the movie. I cannot explain the phenomenon that happened that day. She was squeaky clean after that movie; it was just a terrible day that I will never forget.

And good luck with the whole arm thing. But really, who can you sure because you masturbate too much? I guess maybe the lotion company, if it was better and lowered friction more maybe you would have not hurt yourself .

We all know this is the real reason for your love of chemistry, Enahs. To create a better lube.

I'd still like to see more Americans looking for 3rd party alternatives. And I think the Unity08.com group is as good a one as any for anyone fedup with the Repub/Dem elites.

I am really hoping that come next election time Americans will finally realize that this 2 party system is crap. With the internet now so prevalent, a 3rd or 4th candidate should be able to at least get enough "media coverage" and "advertisement" to at least actually be considered a contender, even if they only get %10 of the total votes, it will set it up for the next election to really invest in more traditional means of political campaigning as well as make it easier to get more political contributions (hopefully not ones with major back ground no-nos and agreeing to swing things in favor of certain things, etc).

But then again, maybe not. Looks likes yet again I will have nobody to vote for. I nominate House M.D. for president.
I have only seen like 3 of those shows, but it seems like a great show and a fun character to watch.

Cutter, I can't speak for but I do miss his political rants.

Heh, I still get on them once in a while, and we haven't even moved into the primaries yet. You can bet I'll be slinging mud and arrows as they start to ramp up. As much as I hate the current politcal process (home and the US) and most of the politicians on both sides of the aisle, I fully admit to being a political junkie and lapping up that which I despise when it's going full bore. Sick, isn't it?

And the only reason you guys liked Boogie Nighs is Markie Mark's big, fake rod. Hehe, j/k but yeah, that vid is definitely worth watching. Nicely done.

practical, simple, cheap, powerful, efficient, and can be mass produced Now

Wrong. It is not efficient. Compressing air is by far one of the most inefficient things we can do. It simply takes much much more energy to compress air then we get out of it. I will look for numbers later, but it is around 10% of the energy you get back (but it is also trivial for you to calculate the energy require to compress air to a certian pressure with the volume and pressure of one of those system, and compare that to how much energy you get out, if you can find those numbers). That is, it takes 100 joules to do the work to compress x amount of air and you can only get back 10 joules as work.

If we had a clean non-wasteful source of energy to compress the air, then yes by all means. But using fossil fuels to compress the air is a horrible horrible idea, as you are just throwing away energy.

Note, there are energy system in place where they compress air, or other gases underground, and use that for off peak power. But they do not have to compress it as great of a degree as required for a car, they use volume not high high pressure.
