Vista Halo 2 Delayed Again

Microsoft Games Studios announces that Halo 2 for Windows Vista now has a new release date of June 8, though the press release has a London dateline, making it possible that this announcement only covers the UK or European edition of the shooter. The Vista edition of the game was expected Tuesday, and Microsoft has once again waited until the 11th hour to announce the slip (the May 22 date was announced on May 8, the previous due date (story)). No explanation for the delay is offered.

I love Halo CE on the PC, and once upon a time I was hellbent on playing Halo2 on my PC even if it meant buying and installing Vista, but now that I already bought a lunchbox360 to play Gears of War and subsequently bought and played Halo2; that fire has all but died.

I enjoyed Halo2 quite a bit don't get me wrong, but to go through all the hassle, not to mention the cost of installing Vista and everything else just to play Halo2 again on my PC...

I just can't seem to get myself worked up enough to do it. (shrug)

Well the problem is trying to use games to push people to a new OS. It's just not a very good idea, PC gamers are not as accepting of that kind of crap as consolers.

For me, I like Vista so it's not an issue

Jesus Christ M$...haven't you learned from your console experiences that you NEED AAA titles to sell a new system/OS.

You know, it's MS we are talking about? MS has nothing to learn, because they think they are already at the top and all is fine.

now if Starcraft 2 was Vista only?

From what I read, they plan to support XP.

Notice how the screen refers to the Xbox Select and Back buttons ?
If they missed a bug as visible as that , then I wonder what other mistakes they've made porting this.

That's not a bug. In order to be a Games for Windows contender, one of the requirements (optional however) was that the game support the XBox controller. I think if I made the XBox, XBox game, and PC Version, I'd make sure my own controller worked with it.

now if Starcraft 2 was Vista only? that would actually be a app people give a shit about and WOULD upgrade for despite Vista's pitfalls

This one wouldn't. Why screw up my computer just to be able to play one game? Now, you bring out 10+ games of quality that StarCraft2 is supposed to be, then we'll talk.

Halo 1 for PC was a horrible...horrible port. Ran like ass on PCs that were far superior to the Xbox hardware and there was inexcusable audio bugs for people who had Sound Blaster cards, which, back then, was a lot!

I'll just point out that Stalker runs faster in Vista.

Not only that by the buggiest game of 2006, Splinter Cell Double Agent, did only run out of the box on my Vista installation. I never got it running on XP without frequent CTDs and graphical glitches.

Vista works just fine, is stable and the 5-6 games I tried on it work flawlessly.

even halo 3 is years behind the battlefield and UT series. only now are they getting stats with ratios. k/d ratio makes console kids happy. whoopie doo! only now are they getting APM mines. yay! only now are they getting havoc style physics engine. console players are so happy that the body of the master chief does not sink into the ground after dying, which allows them to teabag their opponents... big deal. only now are they getting UT like weapons... no matter how they change the look of the weapons they still deliver the same amount of damage. boring. but most of all, they still cannot play on a 64 man server. 4 vs 4 on the beta and probably 8 vs 8 on the final version. their maps are so small it feels like the tip of cerbere map in bf2142.

Wildone, what are your system stats? People I know with powerful systems are having no performance issues, people with shoddy systems are having distinct ones. Vista seems to like Core 2 Duos but not P4s.

And old games not working is fine by me so long as there is a reason. Sometimes you need to break the past to give way to the future. I never complained about my SNES not playing NES games.
I don't know what the XP games relied upon that they don't work in Vista, so I'm not saying it's the case here. I just suspect it must be.

Notice how the screen refers to the Xbox Select and Back buttons ?

It supports the xbox 360 gamepad (there's a PC version of it) so there's the reason for that. You can also click on the buttons or press A/B.

Not a bug they missed, just a design decision.

for about 2 days..I thought the whining about things not working and its performance where just tales, but its true..it really does suck ball$, most of ur fav apps prob wont work, or if they do it wont work right. Games wont work unless they have some kinda patch and even then its sketchy. Its slow/clunky on a high end system that I own, 4 gigs of ram makes no difference. Listening to music on Winamp, I dared to drag another window around the desktop and the sound stuttered..I hav'nt seen that since Win98..

Makes you wonder how much MS cares about gaming on Vista if a supposed flagship game is ported so badly. Nevermind, it's not surprising at all. I already knew MS's idea of PC gaming and my idea of PC gaming are two completely different things.

Looks aren't everything

The irony here is that it looks like a poorly-done DX8 game, too.
