Beowulf Game Revealed

Time to open the good mead, as Ubisoft announces Beowulf movie tie-in has word that today's "Ubidays" event held by Ubisoft in Paris saw the unveiling of plans for a Beowulf game. This is a tie-in with an upcoming movie based on the untitled epic poem known by that name, but seems unrelated to this Beowulf game (after a millennium, we're probably in ©/™-free territory here). They are not revealing details such as target platforms at this point, but do say the game "should re-invent the hack-and-slash genre." According to IMDB, Robert Zemeckis' movie based on the poem is due in November of this year, which probably serves as a good indicator of when to expect the game.

Are people just now hearing of Beowulf? I mean, you had the 2005 Gerard Butler movie, another one that came out not to long ago for Sci-Fi channle and the new hollywood one with angeline jolie, and now two games?

I like the one from, I think 1999, with Chris Lambert. That one's the best because it has an immortal in it. Well, I haven't seen the 2005 yet. The Sci-Fi version wasn't bad.

And don't forget the prequel for the movie, circa 1000 A.D.

-edit- oh, i guess the post says as much. Serves me right for being monsieur smarty-pants.

Ubisoft don't have enough faith in the PC genre, nor the support capabilities to keep a MMO afloat. I mean, most MMOs need more than 2 patches else you get class action lawsuits.

I think that's just it, though. There aren't enough lawsuits to point out the obvious flaws in the gaming industry as a whole - too often publishers just release unfinished games. For all the moaning and griping Riley and cohorts do about Steam and such, there are far fewer technical problems encountered in running that then say...your typical EA release (which ironically the idiot, Riley, has actually praised in the past).

Well if you guys watched "The Thirteenth Warrior" you will get an idea of how a new Beowulf movie will play out. The Thirteenth Warrior was in part based upon Beowulf. This new movie should have some nasty horror scenes if what I read in the epic poem is recreated by Hollywood. Grendel the monster comes in and attacks Beowulf warrior companions who are feinting sleep and kills some of them by ripping their heads off, Beowulf grips Grendel and tears off his claw.... well when the movie comes out you will see some blood spattering gore.
