Out of the Blue

My buddy Devicer is raving about the quality of a pair of eyeglasses that he purchased over the internet, of all things. He thinks the quality is as high as store-bought glasses, while costing about 10% of what you'd pay in the store. These things are ground via machines, so I don't see why this wouldn't work fine, and I'm going to give it a try.

Also, I have said it many times - if the normal pot user could hold down a job, not beat his wife and kids, not have numerous felony strikes (other than pot), etc., I wouldn't be so against it.

I smoke almost every night...after I get home from work, before I goto bed. I work 8:30am to 5pm everyday and manage to hold my job and do my tasks just fine, don't beat my girlfriends and have never been arrested, don't even have a speeding ticket to my name.

Well, the fact that over 40% of American households have a firearm of some sort is telling of a few things.

Yeah, it tells me we are behind some other countries in percentage of homes with guns, like the Finland and Norway, and probably the Swiss and Israelis. It doesn't tell me why we have a higher rate of per capita gun deaths.

heh, wonder if he was one of the idiots that got himself shot yesterday

Unfortunately, I don't think so. He and his normal bar troupe came home loudly after 2am last night. He does this seven nights a week! If the cops/druggies/dealers don't get him first, his liver is going to give up before he hits 30.

Appreciate the help bud. I am kinda sick of wondering when the shooting is going to start over there. That does bring up an interesting point though. If it was potheads I would not be worried nearly as much, but the meth nutballs I see are a downright freakshow.

I could be wrong about it, but he has lots of customers and many of them display withdrawal symptoms conducive to harder substances. The best part? He lives upstairs from his parents. And he frequents Legends. Maybe this is not a coincidence?

Hey Batman. You and your buddies should check out 1106 Jefferson NE (2nd house in across from Logan Park). Supposedly a kid has been running meth there for a couple years. From my various sources he is the go-to for meth in the city. I could be wrong about it, but he has lots of customers and many of them display withdrawal symptoms conducive to harder substances. The best part? He lives upstairs from his parents. And he frequents Legends. Maybe this is not a coincidence?

I have a faint suspicion there may be cops in on the deal, but it is probably just my wild imagination. It's kinda funny that this may be the most anonymous place to let someone know. But I am a tad paranoid.... I blame the internets.

I know, your part isn't that bad, but its damn close to a warzone! I'm wondering when Mr. P is going to call out the National Gaurd on those thugs in North.

Some people moved into a house across the street last week. They unload some stuff and entered the back door and promptly threw a leather sofa and chairs out the front door and into the front yard, landing in a heap. I may hear gunfire over that, but other than that, not too bad.

Sorry to hear that Batman. You have gang problems over their, and why the city isn't raiding that whole part of town is beyond comprehension, or at least in the core of North Mpls. The bad guys are a little more well behaved over here. It's like paradise. I don't hear guns anymore, but now the hookers are out like mad!

whoa whoa whoa...this is NE - EAST of the NORF side.

ANyway, glad to hear the shotspot is working for you guys - now the criminals have just moved north of your area.

Has anyone read them. Any links or information on the best way to read through them?

I used to read them back in HS and college. I recommend the Zahn series, he was good. Sure, it's a bit "dated" now, as things have been progressing since. IE, Luke & company are getting a little long in the teeth (but they're still the focal points).

I actually started up recently. I'm working on the current/ongoing series of "Legacy of the Force." In a nutshell, the Alliance (good guys from the movies) are acting a little Empire-ish. Meanwhile, the jedi son of 2 of the main characters is on the path to the Dark Side and is acting a lot like Darth Vader. There are also some parallels to today's climate.

But in the end, I've missed about 6 years of books and while a lot has happened in that time, you can still follow along.

And your point is? Even if they totally outlawed all guns, it wouldn't keep him (or anyone else) from illegally obtaining a gun.

Well, the fact that over 40% of American households have a firearm of some sort is telling of a few things. One, guns are so ingrained in American culture and two, there's no way you could enforce a policy of taking them all away if the Second Amendment was repealed.

Which, I'm all for the repealing of the Second Amendment. It's outdated, doesn't give explicit rights for individual ownership of firearms, and frankly plays more into the bigger economics of big business than keeping up liberties (hey, America is a huge player in the international arms trade, after all). But I also realize the damn thing will never be repealed.

However, there has to be stricter gun control than is currently present. Yes yes, the standard "Well social services should do a better job at helping people" works for solving only half the problem. The fact is a person can be forced into treatment but doesn't have to remain as a patient. And you still have to deal with the Cho's who did just that and still get ahold of firearms.

So, as far as I'm concerned, as long as America is willing put up with wackjobs shooting up school campuses and malls in the sake of maintaining personal freedoms, a gun owner can compromise and submit himself to having to deal with stricter gun control.

Gun Control isn't about guns. It's about control.

And I'll say it one more time. Yes, it's about control, since we have to live in an armed society full of paranoia, you want to buy into the game of owning a gun, you can live with tighter controls.

Keep us up to date on the performance and hardware issues.
Never really a fan of their high return hw....but maybe those days are gone...

Interesting to know how good they are - considering all of their brick and mortar stores are gone...at least in this area.

I figured for the price I wasn't risking TOO much. My second computer was a Gateway 2000 486/DX2-66 and that machine was the best. I guess I still have a soft spot in my heart for them. It probably won't get carted around too much, so we'll see.

I plugged it in to charge overnight. Depending on how much house-related stuff is going on tonight, maybe I can get in there and play with Windows Vista a bit and remove some of the junk that is inevitably taking up space on it....
