KOTOR MMORPG?

KOTOR MMO in development? has speculation from the rumors section of the new print issue of EGM Magazine suggesting BioWare may be at work on an MMORPG based on Knights of the Old Republic, their much-loved Star Wars RPG. The reason for drawing this inference is not provided, nor are any other details, though the sub-headline calls this a console title, even though MMOGs more typically reside on PCs.

"Interesting to hear other people who thought Kotor was average."

Especially since, at the time, these people were mysteriously absent, even though they now claim they were warning everyone on just how awful a game it was.

Getting a tad jaded are we, fellas?

(for old time's sake) We are the knights who say : KOTOR!

Over and Over they've said they have 3 titles in the works and 2 are for the PC. If it turns out that Dragon Age is for the PS3 and their unnamed MMOG is a console title, then they were lying through their teeth!

Relax. Dragon Age is a PC only game. It's not going to the PS3. Stop worrying.

And why are you so hardassed on the whole "I WILL NOT BUY A CONSOLE!@!!!!11!1One!1! ?"

Despite rumors to the contrary, consoles don't actually kill your cat, and are very fun machines to play games on.

I wonder if this is that mysterious 2nd Star Wars MMORPG that was rumored to be in the works a year and a half or so ago. When Sony vigorously denied that they were losing the Star Wars license and would have to shut Galaxies down. (if only...)

jade empire sucked monkey balls tho

What? I thought jade empire was absolutely fantastic. The combat could have used a little work, perhaps some variety, but the story, the environments, the NPC companions, all fantastic.

Well, I'm rooting for this because we need an updated Star Wars MMO that is not run by SOE. I hope they are doing this, and it turns out great.

Interesting to hear other people who thought Kotor was average. All I heard was super-hype, so I went and bought it, only to find that it wasn't uber amazing. Fun, yes, but not something to write home about.

KOTOR really wasn't that hot either. It was fun, in much the same way NWN2's official single player campaign was fun.

Hmm, I found KOTOR to be far more entertaining than NWN2. But then, I hate D&D and I think lightsabers are inherently awesome.

That said, Bioware's games have never really been open-ended. You have some high-level choices, like choosing to be good or evil but the game experience is mostly the same either way. There's usually a lack of low-level choices as well, since you have very limited interaction with the environment and other characters. You also have very little control over your own characters. Nevertheless, I still Bioware's games (yes, even Jade Empire) to be entertaining. Now where's MDK3?

And the PC port was, to be kind, sub-par.

Hmm, no. A sub-par port would be RE4, where they shipped the game without any lighting effects and made no efforts to implement mouse support into the game.

The Jade Empire port added lighting and particle effects, some higher resolution textures, new fighting styles, new enemies and a fully mouse/keyboard optimized control scheme. That = above par port.

Nope, not alone Toebot. I tried to convince people here at blues that it stunk, that I had bought it for xbox and it was so "bland" that I gave it to a friend as a sort of "revenge" gift...but they didn't listen.

KOTOR really wasn't that hot either. It was fun, in much the same way NWN2's official single player campaign was fun. Take that whichever way you want.

I guess I'm alone in thinking Jade Empire was one of the most horrendously average games ever made. And the PC port was, to be kind, sub-par. Frankly, I didn't think KOTOR was exactly "Game of the Year" material either.

Of course it will be one HELL of a game. It's bioware. Their shit is gold. But I flat out REFUSE to buy a console. My favorite game company leaving PC gaming, and as I said, leaving PC Gamers, those that made them what they are now, after such a legacy. Pissed me off good.

Bioware released the original KOTOR on Xbox well before it was released for PC. This isn't something new for them.

And in all fairness, it's a good move. The MMO market has been huge for PC gaming, and is relatively untapped in console games... a AAA MMO title for a console could be huge (although I'd prefer cross-platform, since that worked with FFXI).

I've been curious how Xbox Live would affect game companies and their efforts at putting MMO's out for the the 360; without the same front end I wonder if they'll favor the PS3 for that kind of online content.

I prefer my PC to my consoles, but don't sell them short. A good game is a good game regardless of what you use to play it, and the PS3 already supports USB keyboards and mice... it's a good setup for an MMO.

I hate to break it to all you kiddies, but Lucas Arts pulled the plug on Bioware a few weeks ago. No one knows about this and yes its true. Bioware got shit canned off this project.. Trust me I have inside info on this one.

First off, KOTOR 2 was done by Obsidian. Secondly SWG is done by SOE with Lucasarts input, and honestly after the last 2 rapings (CU/NGE) just let it die already.

I get the magazine for free and was reading the article, which sound totally like major rumor fluff. Also a rumor was that the PC only game Dragon Empire or whatever they are doing is also going to the PS3. We shall see.

As for Bioware doing a MMO, why not? Mass Effect has shown that they can do huge outdoor terrain, and travel between the planets. Throw in some wookies and some lightsabers and I'd be a happy camper. As for PC or Console, who knows but I think it would be a travesty to have something like this on a console. Then again maybe it's why Microsoft if gearing up with it's keyboard attachment for the 360 controller.

And as for KOTOR 1, I thought it was perfect. Excellent Story, Game Looked great for the time, not overly linear except the start and end of the game, freedom of choice, voice action etc. Which is why when I think of KOTOR 2, I get angry, upset and want to cause people at Obsidian bodily harm for fucking up what coulda been a great sequal.

Apologies. Let me rephrase my statement.
