didnt epic not long ago complained publicly that dx10 has nothing that dx9 cannot do graphically? the only new things in dx10 is seen on the developers side.

which makes one wonder... why is crysis showcasing as dx10? and why are the new graphics on flight sim x only dx10? seems to me M$ is full of it when it comes to benefit pc gamers.

Only 2 that have are Crysis and Alan Wake. But hell, Alan Wake is to the point ya need a quad core intel processor and a industry freeze to cool the thing to play it.

Strange how they didn't really mention any major "game makers" that were supposedly so excited about Vista. I have yet to hear of any except those being directly funded by MS for some Xbox crossover project.

I know some are excited about DX10 hardware, others say it's not that revolutionary and DX9 still has a long way to go.

All *I* know is that Vista sucks ass and I hope to delay switching as long as possible.

I don't think the writer meant to imply that directX was responsible for the visuals, but it did handle input, sound, and often any 2d drawing that needed to be done (DirectDraw) for many games of that generation. Quake may have been a bad example, as I'm not sure if it used directX at all.

The standard for 3d at the time was definitely OpenGL, direct3D was quite a ways from maturity. Really the only thing wrong with the sentence is the mention of video cards.

Allowing nudity/sex in games doesn't automatically make them pr0n games. A lot of games would have been more immersive had they had appropriate nudity. The Hitman games, for example. Whenever somebody takes a shower in a Hitman game, he does so with his underwear on. Women never take showers in the games. And strippers never actually strip.

I'm not asking for hardcore porn here. I just want some degree of realism in games that largely emphasize it.

"If you want to play next-gen games you have to have a next-gen operating system,"
Wow, sounds like a marketing blurb if I ever read one.

The DirectX standard dates back to the mid-1990s when upgrading add-on video cards on home computers was still a hobbyist's pursuit, something hardcore gamers did to extract the most performance from 3-D shooters like "Quake" or "Unreal."
Uh, weren't both those games both software rendered to begin with? And wasn't it OpenGL that they could be used with? I know Quake at least, not sure about Unreal. But that quote makes it seem like DirectX was responsible for the games 3D visuals.

If adult only games (and lets face it, aren't most games adult only, like Wolfenstien 3-D - GTA?) are as lame as "adult movies" then why bother?

The article was referring to sex in games and the public's proclivity to be oversensitive whenever a booby shows up in one.

Frankly, as far as sex in games is concerned, it could go a long towards solving a content problems most PC games seem to have. There's so many ways you can take that

But ah...yeah, I bought Indigo Prophecy for the Xbox and saw the usual censorship taking place in a couple of shower and sex scenes (the camera drops pans to the side a bit), then promptly learned the UK/European release of the game wasn't censored at all. WTF?

Now if it is like Videodrome, that could be interesting. But it's not going to be like Videodrome. It wont even be like eXistenZ. It will be like those late night movies on Showtime.
