1.2 Patch is now out and its confirmed that chrononmeter is still not fixed. This is a function that is described in manual page 70:

To begin process, left-click on the clock icon on the data tool. This will take the first sighting and begin counting the time. It is best to have the target locked at this moment. When satisfied with the expened time - longer is better - left-click again. This will conclude the measurement and display the results.

This feature doesn't work in Silent Hunter 4 version 1.0, 1.1 and now even 1.2 doesn't fix it. Please fix this asap in 1.3 its a shame this still hasnt been fixed in 1.2. It makes no sense why you culdnt fix it.

But good LORD is the game hard to break into! Made by ex-Navy guys I'm glad for the authentic recreation, and once you know what to do it's about 10 times more engrossing than a Tom Clancy novel.

It's hard core, no doubt about that.

So do we know if this patch works on the digital distribution (Direct2Drive) version of SH4? They haven't posted one yet and I don't know if there's a difference in this case anyway. Sometimes they're interchangeable, sometimes not.

Well, I am at sea and everything seems fine... though I was given the exact same mission as last time.

Dangerous Waters is a good one if you're looking for a naval sim experience with modern technology. You can drive subs, an ASW chopper, an Orion and a Perry FFG. It also takes voice command if you really want to go over the edge.

Modern combat sims make me glad I have the WW2 ones to resort to when I'm feeling lazy and don't care when my dumbfire torpedoes miss.

Loving this patch. Loving it.

BTW, can somebody point me in the direction of other good war sims, realtime type games like this.

yeah a slow paced sub MMO would, get this... SINK!

But really MMO's need to be action imagine singing on, hunting alone for 30 minutes not finding anything, then you have to go do something. =\

UPDATE: I was able to load my in-base savegame after patching to 1.2. Now I have to refit and get seaborne, I'll report back how it all goes.

Think of the scenarios and sub-storyline arcs you could create with a Silent Hunter mmog - everything from modern day doomsday tension (see 'On The Beach' omg), to nuclear tension drama (ala Crimson Tide w/Gene Hackman and Denzel Washington) to sci-fi alien mindbender Bermuda Triangle wackyness ! An endless supply of content goodness.

Someone - please - give me $40M to design a mmog and i will make u rich and famous!

Amen and hopefully devs will recognize that this concept is the real Core mmog market long term.

How about a broad, deep, immersive, persistent MMOG based on this idea. Seems like it would naturally lend itself to group online play. EVE + Pirates of the Carib - Underwater.

Tell me about, 350K tonnage sunk right down the drain.

I don't want to start a whole new career! They should at least make the patches compatible with in-base savegames. All this Jap tonnage sunk for nothing!

Well now hoping/praying the patch also fixes having 10 of the same missions in a row.

Been playing this for 2 days. I love it.

I highly recommend buying this at a store and not a digital download. Lots of goodies (maps and stuff) + DVD documentary

Patch is sweet too. 1680 x 1050 is amazing

Between all the mods & the newest patch this game is NOW finally ready for prime time. If you enjoy slow, difficult, simulation games you will love this one. This is NOT the game for those with ADD or who want that arcade feel.
