Too many bugs still, buying this is like paying to be a beta tester.

BiS's main focus now is VBS2 a high end military training system, it looks a little like ArmA but underneath it's been completely retooled. Just a damn shame that they don't put some of the VBS2 features in ArmA but then again they want some $1500 to $2000 for VBS2.

this looks like it would be a blast to play

Totally agree... quickfix-kiddie fastfood gamers need not apply. I say this cause ArmA won`t float yer boat. I loved Flashpoint. Played the campaigne 3 seperate times. Had the hi rez skies, weaps, and sounds mods.

This new demo for me runs awesome maxed at 1024x768x32. A.I. seems tighter. Very impressed with it. As for the controls, yeah like FP it has alot of em. I used to control my squad by voice com using Gamevoice back in the FP days. That helped alot.

The graphics are not cutting edge, but on a fast rig with an 8800 GTX, the visuals sure are sweet.

Does anyone know if you can you use the demo to play someone hosting the demo missions using the retail version? What did I just say? Probably the wrong forum to ask... but hey, I am lazy! I'm guessing not anyway... but I want to test it with my old man in the other hemisphere before I plonk down for this and trackir. (It's hard to order/get stuff here) Last time I visited the olds we played the other 8 people who still played OFP in Australia on some super hardcore server that had 2gig of mods running. Compared to ArmA, any 'mod' that uses the BF engine is an arcade game. ArmA is not your typical run, gun, dolphin dive, shooter. The maps are huge which makes not dying right before you reach your objective a must.

As far as using a TrackIR in ArmA, it's totally awesome. I own the UK version and a TrackIR 4 Pro. If it wasn't for my TIR, I wouldn't play ArmA. It gets that integrated into the game. Something about running down a road and quickly being able to scan your surroundings without changing your direction of travel is appealing. That and not being stuck in tunnel vision mode when you're flying at tree-top levels is a must.

If you're looking to purchase a TIR, I'd suggest going to www.dslyecxi.com first and getting his promo code for $30 off. =)

Ant, best way I can say this is like compairing Microsoft Flight Simulator, to Crimson Skies. Flight Sim is just that, as Crimson Skies is very arcadish (damn it needs a true PC sequal). This is just like Operation Flashpoint. With exception to patching up holes in your teamates in the field, this is THE hardcore military simulator.

Project Reality mod? PR mod was steep and it took a while to get used to. It is still an action game, but is it arcadeish?

And something cool this game/sim has is the best lean options ever. I love sprinting across a road and then be able to look sideways with ALT pressed. Other games should incorporate the free-look option.

They said they fixed the choppers so I'll definitely try those out. Last demo they were kinda messed up with the axis and all.

Guys,

Its a sim. If you look at it like BF2, Quake4, CS, etc, youre going to be disappointed. Yes it has a lot of controls. Yes the learning curve is steep. No the graphics arent cutting edge.

But if you think of it like IL2 Sturmovik for the infantrymen, its one of the best games ever made. Like other great sims, once you put in the time, the rewards are much greater in satisfaction than any BF2 match.

I agree if you want easy shoot-em-up fun when you get home from work (nothing wrong with that), this probably isnt the game for you. But measured on what its trying to do, its fantastic.

TrackIR is essential if your into simming/online air combat. Interested to see how it'd work in ARma

The clue is actually in the name of the WMV file, if you know about the product - take a look at http://www.naturalpoint.com/trackir/ for the system.

I have no idea if it's any good, but quite a few hardcore driving sims have support for it, so I'd assume it's at least usable.

Uh, where? I didn't see any URLs or did I overlook it?

100 controls? Serious? I hate games with so many controls just to play!

I just watched that video clip and it shows a guy using a InfraRed Webcam or something to keep track of theplayer's head. Basically, he turns and the game camera turns to reflects that. Wow. Does anyone know how this works? Where to get this, setup, and stuff.

I second that statement that if you are looking for a BF2 experience you'll run screaming from this. This is for hardcore simmers. Hell, even the "regular" mode is hardcore-ish.

While I definitely appreciate the sweat and detail that went into this, I like switching my brain off when I play games, this is just too much work.

EDIT: This is much more stable and smoother than the old demo.

It isn't trying to compete with BF2, they are totally different types of games. BF2 is an arcade version of war, Armed Assault is a simulation. Very different audiences, and in my experience, less foul-mouthed 13-year olds play OFP/ArmA.

Armed Assualt does have join in progress though, which I agree, reeeeally needed to be in this game in order to have a decent MP experience.

You have to (like in STALKER) tweak the crap out of your settings, but hey, if you have a shinny new gpu then you'll be fine.

I didn't even remember the first demo. :s I believe I downloaded it but after hearing how badly it ran I think I just deleted it.

Any comments on this? kthx

If they're tryin to compete with BF2..forget it. I hope they have a better lobby interface than OPFlash had or this will die the same way.

I'm going to give this another shot because I was never able to connect to a multiplayer game in the previous demo.
