Everything I've read says that Trackmania United does NOT contain the Starforce driver/rootkit type issues that all the Starforce complaints are based on.

It *does* use binary encryption from the Starforce company, BUT that is an entirely different technology from the one that everyone complains about.

TM United does not put Starforce drivers on your system.

Not to mention that there is no way you can get St*rF*rce to run in vista alongside kernel protection.

Only way I can see st*rforce doing what they have done in the past is if MS authorizes the driver to run in kernel space.

i downloaded this game not long ago. and it includes starforce. but instead of authenticating by replacing the ide driver in windows it authenticates online. like steam and other multiplay games.
Actually, no, Starforce's authentication is NOT like other multiplayer games. It is tied to your PC's hardware as well, and when you uprgade or change hardware, a new activation is required. The problem is that activations are not unlimited. When you run out, you must purchase the game again. In addition, in one racing game which used this Starforce activation, you could only reactivate on a specific day of the week during certain hours, i.e. Tuesday. So, you had to do without the game for up to a week if you changed hardware or computers.

The bottom line is that every version of Starforce sucks and should be avoided.

No, the free d/l version was TrackMania:Nations. It was a client used in some sort of multi-national cyber competition.

FileFront getting paid to promote StarForce games?

That's probably one of the dumbest things I've heard all day, but on the other hand, the day is early still!

All I know is that I do not need the DVD in the drive to play and Aray scanner detected nothing.

I heard this game has some benevolent form of spyware? Google results show 129,000 results for TrackMania United spyware
http://www.google.com/search?q=TrackMania+United+spyware&ie=utf-8&oe=utf-8&aq=t&rls=org.mozilla:en-US:official&client=firefox-a

I'm not trying to throw out FUD just thought you guys should be aware of the "spyware issue" in this game whether or not they're true.

Ditto, I loved the games, but if that SF stuff is included over here--they can shove it up their collective european union holes. Never again will that stuff touch my H/D!!! Too bad the Euro wimps don't have enough bollocks to STOP BUYING SF infected software!!!!!!
Look at Stalker, Euro get securom, russia gets SF and North Americans--nothing!!!! Why??? Because we don't open our wallets to this crap!!!!!!!!!!!!!
Too Bad FILE FRONT doesn't have the guts to say DON"T BUY!!!!! because of SF!!! I wonder how much $$$$ they get for promoting SF infected games!

Does United still use StarForce for copy protection? I love TM and TM:Sunrise but I won't put them back on my computer because of the StarForce protection.
