Company of Heroes 2 Unveiling Soon

Jeff Green's 1UP Blog discusses the next issue of Games for Windows Magazine, revealing Company of Heroes II will actually be their cover story (thanks FiringSquad), rather than Peggles:
Anyway, start looking for our new issue soon. It's not really a Peggle cover. It's one of those "exclusive" stories---this time about the followup to Relic's awesome Company of Heroes. Guess what? We get to kill more Nazis again!! Yay!

I'm debating whether to patch and restart or not
I can see how people get bored of WW2 - there have been a lot of them in the last 5 years or so (basically, since RtCW). But I like good games, and if a game is good and set in WW2 then I like the WW2 vibe. The problem is a lot of companies releasing crappy games set in WW2.

But I'm biased - I can't even play SupCom any more because it's too SciFi for me. Different strokes, different folks.

Rubbish - there are just as many SciFi games as there are WW2.

Amen. And if you add those two categories together, you get about a quarter of the number of D&D-type games out there. I guess killing orcs doesn't get as old as killing Nazis.

Relic really needs to stay more on the cutting edge sci fi track.
Rubbish - there are just as many SciFi games as there are WW2. I loved CoH and would be happy to play more. Of course, being Games for Windoze doesn't fill me with confidence that it'll be Vista only, but... let's hope.

Edit - if it's an expansion I guess there's not much to worry about

turns out it IS an expansion, as tales of heroes ( http://tales.tsncentral.com ) confirmed it as news to come. not sure why i assumed it was a sequel. good times, as it will be easier on my wallet while being tasty for my brain (always a good combo!).

also, tales of heroes mentioned more info (just a bit more) about dx10 and coh. in episode 24's audio discussion they briefly discussed the dx10 effect on the game during their visit to relic's open house the week prior to the show. so... its still in the works it seems but whether its expansion only or will turn current coh into dx10 is still a mystery.

oh and Rainier... yea, i wasn't ranting on your comment but wanted to post an opposing argument to it simply to show both sides of the possibilities.

EDIT:
Death to Sequels: 100 players max is not true. i commonly see 1500 or more during peak times. even at 4 am (PST) on a wed evening theres more than 100. obviously, its nothing near 100,000 blizzard has but you gotta keep in mind... blizzard has an insane reputation, especially for online gameplay with battle.net. relic's relic online still needs some work but just a few days ago they released a new server side patch that addressed a pretty serious issue regarding fairiness in automatic ranked game finding. while it may never reach 100k its still not as pitiful as you originally made it seem, hehe. so, relic is definitely constantly trying to improve the online environment and based on the quality of the game as well as their commitment to keep making it more balanced and improved ive got total faith in a positive future for this game, may take a while though.

It doesn't say COH 2 anywhere. It's likely an expansion, it's way to quick for COH2.

I hope this game has a good multiplayer fanbase. Gamespotters tell me that there's only about 100 people playing the game online at peak times, which seems pretty weak to me. I play Warcraft 3 still, and that game has 100,000 people playing it peak times.

For whatever reasons, people aren't gravitating to non-Blizzard RTS games when it comes to online play. Once one of these games breaks that 1,000 player barrier.. i'll definitely take interest

Something tells me its going to follow Dark Crusade as a standalone xpac. Wonder what will be it?

Continue Able Company's journey through Europe? ie. Operation Market Garden and Battle of the Bulge

Or will have an entirely new campaign?

Grumbles *I wanted a damn Dawn of War Sequel*

I'd buy Relic stuff if it were shit on a stick, I've not played anything they made that I didn't enjoy, but I still am not really excited at a WWII game. It's been done...

Axed, I didn't mean milking the cow as a bad thing, I'd prefer if they released an expansion, or maybe two, instead of a sequel already.

The game still stands on its own, and like was said before, some new maps, units and a few tweaks and they have a legit and eagerly anticipated expansion/addon.

I agree though that the blog doesn't really say anything about a sequel, so I wonder why people have been assuming such, it would make more sense if it were an addon. "The followup" doesnt mean sequel at all, people are just jumping to conclusions.

My money is on news about an addon, and that mysterious DirectX 10/Vista patch that was mentioned months ago.

Expansion or new game, Relic has my cash in it's pocket already. I loved all the Homeworld games, and I loved CoH. When they start going EA and thumb their nose at QA I might change my tune, but for now they're a quality developer who have earned my respect and my dollars.

From reading the god awful blog, it doesn't say anything about it being a sequel. I'm guessing expansion pack. What I really want to see is Relic do a modern warfare RTS, much like what they are doing with Call of Duty 4 (FPS).

Oh and yes it is greed, no two ways about it.

Yeah, games are also sold in stores with the intention of making (and hopefully profit) off their sales. It's greed, no two ways about it. You don't exactly have to buy the stuff if you don't want it, you know.

WW2? I understand that this game would have a sequel as it is great, but Relic really needs to stay more on the cutting edge sci fi track.

Well, just begs the question why you're so picky, would you actually pay for it? A spoiled kid with broadband....

But the beloved Bethesda with their Micro Transactions. Even the more risky and artistic developers aren't above greed. Oh and yes it is greed, no two ways about it.

its not milking the cow if the game is actually good. or the sequel at that. coh is a game of intense quality and relic deserves each and every dollar i payed for it. milking the cow would be to release an expansion with only some new visual content and a new unit or two (EA anyone?) but nothing really new for gameplay.

honestly, i was surprised that thers already a sequel being announced, much less the same war and theatre. a 20 dollar expansion with new maps and a good handful of new units would have been great but a whole new game... really unexpected. and yea, i was also thinking the next one or the exp would be the pacific front or just a new era in general (ww1 (not many people tack the difficulties of preventing a game with that setting simply turning into trench warfare like the real thing, i can understand though), vietnam (would fit the scale of the game and the heavy micro you arlready do on the front lines) or soemthing more modern)

From the sound of this it could either be a standalone expansion as easily as it could be a sequel. Hopefully it IS going to be the Eastern front. You get to still kill Nazis that way. Got my fingers crossed, and will be looking forward to when this issue hits my mailbox.

Weird that they would already announce a full blown sequel, why not milk the cow and release an expansion pack to the original first...

Because real pros at milking the cow properly prefer to release full price titles and to warrant the mark-up then call them sequel instead of expansion .
