FASA Rumor & Follow-up

The Official Shadowrun Community Forum has a post from a user claiming to have knowledge of plans to close the developer of Shadowrun shortly (thanks Xbox 360 Fanboy and Slashdot). The users bona fides are questioned by the other forum members, and a subsequent post by Kimona, FASA lead program manager suggests that there are changes afoot that are part of the usual conclusion of a project, but the studio is not closing:
Shadowrun will be shipping soon. It's been a long three years for many on the team. I'm certain that some folks will be leaving us to do other things after we ship. That's normal, and it's healthy, too. As for our contingent staff here, they're just that - contingent. They have a maximum amount of time they can work here before taking a mandatory break. Many of them are complete star performers, but when the job's done, they move on, and the job's almost done.

The personal attacks on team members are inappropriate. We're locking this thread accordingly.

These are the guys who claimed people were no longer interested in a mecha sim hence they stopped development on MW5. Meanwhile, Chromehounds comes out and ends up selling big numbers along with a very popular online component.

If they had half a brain they would tap Live! Arcade and do a remake of Multiplayer Battletech 3025. It would be the first MMOG for Live! Arcade. They've proved themselves incapable of doing an interesting single player game (both the original build of Crimson skies 2 and mechwarrior 4's single player component sucked) so better to stick with what they know.

Yes, bring back multiplayer mech games! I practically grew up with Netmech. EA's probably still sitting on the rights to MPBT:3025 but a "spiritual successor" would do just fine. I'm not going to hold out any hopes for it though, it seems FASA/Microsoft would rather appease console kiddies, and Battletech games are bit too complicated for most of them.

I have Mechwarrior 4 (the whole thing) sitting here about to reinstall it to get some mech action until I get a 360 and Chromehounds, (especially after Tumblers comments on it).

Sadly this is one of the franchises that was 'Xbox'd'. Mech and power ups? STOP THE INSANITY!

They took a great concept, coulda made something really great and needed (mmorpg based in a future time, better content than Neocron and Anarchy Online). Instead, they rape our memories with an FPS and new story arc. Good riddance!

Who owns the license to Deus Ex now anyway? Wonder if they could ever make another one without succumbing to the temptation to make it a console game that also comes out for the PC, rather than the other way around. After what happened with the last one, they may not want to try again.

Guess this kills any hope of a Shadowrun RPG coming out. Well, kills it even further then it already was.

Someone mentioned Xbox live. They could have released the Genesis Shadowrun RPG via XBLA and I promise it would have sold well.

Technically SCi Entertainment Group PLC, which is the parents of Eidos now, own the franchise.

Highly doubtful we'll ever see another game in that universe. There are still many people who claim Operation Snowblind is set in the DX storyline (it isn't even related except for starting out in the universe then made into a whole new franchise, then died).

Tough to say either way.
Personally, I don't think MS will shut off Fasa right away, or if they do, that team's just getting merged with the Microsoft Game Studios.
Whatever that's worth.
Point is that the team is still employed.

If Shadowrun does well, we can expect the rpg's and other spin off titles to come out.

Maybe this bit of gameplay will finally get first person developers to stop making world war 'simulations'

Hell no. If Shadowrun does well, what game do we get after that? Right, a team-based shooter named Shadowrun 2!
