I appreciate the "I'll play it when it comes out" - but it's fairly obvious then that you'd not consider yourself a die-hard fan, right?
Ah, that's where you're wrong :). Half Life and HL2 are by far my most played games. I've spent longer playing them and their expansions and messing about with their SDKs than I have spent with almost every other game I have ever owned combined.
But every time Valve have delayed a product (so far) we have ended up with something (IMO) that was pretty special. HL was redesigned for a year and was amazing. HL2, for whatever reason, was delayed a year and was almost as good. Episode 1 was fun, if a little short. I certainly didn't feel ripped off even having paid $20 over Steam, though this might be down to the exchange rate - £10 is about the cost of a CD in the UK, vs £20 for Ep1 in the stores.
I am very much looking forward to Ep2 and, to a lesser extent, Portal. But if it comes out in April, or June, or September, it makes no difference to me. I have plenty of other stuff to be getting on with (gaming and otherwise) until then.
