Tell me how any of these RPGs are fundamentally different from Fallout? It's the same game. You could remake KOTOR II, or NWN2 in the Fallout engine and not miss anything, gameplay-wise. Not a single thing! The only change has been the graphics.

Well. KOTOR II and NWN2 were both developed by Obsidian, which is mostly ex-Black Isle folk. I haven't played either of those, honestly, and from what I've heard about both I doubt I will.

But NWN was just totally without any sort of heart. Jade Empire wasn't as deep as even Bioware's older games tend to be. And while BG1 and BG2 were fun, I just didn't enjoy them as much as Fallout or Planescape. It was really all about the writing, I think.

Ha ha. I'll believe that when I see it. That just means they'll design it for consoles ahead of time so that they can save on porting costs later on

Dragon Age looks to be PC only, for all I've seen and heard about it.

Indeed, Bioware and similar companies (Black Isle, Obsidian) have had a very strait formula for making their RPGs for years now, that has changed little. Each game just has different setting, story and graphics is all.

As to Mass Effect (and I'm starting to think Dragon Age as well, as little we know of it) will probably be different. As much as some of us disliked it, Oblivion really has changed the cRPG scene, for better or worse.

Bioware was always just a watered-down Black Isle anyway.

Take a pay cut mother fucker and pay those people that worked overtime for free. You have an "extremely well run" life sucking slave ship called EA that caters to the lowest common denominator.

Sitting and hoarding franchises with no incentive to ever take risks again. Risks that got you (EA) where you are today.

It's endemic to the game developer community now. It can _only_ get worse. Period. This isn't the 90s. There's no going back to the 90s. We have to just face that--the mod scene for every game (even HL2, which should be the queen of the ball) is stagnant; every PC game worth anything will go to consoles; every console game that's ported to be will be riddled with console-cripple misfeatures.

No we wouldn't be waiting near 2 years to see them on PC (most are about a year and a half later,) but their games would be buggy and unfinished as EA demanded they release their games sooner and sooner in more and more an unfinished state.

Whether Bioware has gone down hill at all is nothing but conjecture and opinion. Mixing with EA is a bad move, period.

And don't for a second think that when they started working near exclusively with Micro$haft that I wasn't pissed then too, as were many of those who helped make Bioware what they are today, PC gamers. But they haven't left us completely. They have 2 PC exclusives in the works right now. Sure one is unannounced and the other doesn't get 1/4 the coverage as say Mass Effect. But thats typical. Bioware never did like to release info on a game until it was a year or so from release.

Bioware is one of the only GREAT companies left to be touched by the corruption that is EA.

Well, to be fair, Bioware started going down hill when they signed their first exclusivity deal with Microsoft. Sad as it is, if their games were published by EA, we wouldn't have to wait 2+ years to see them on the PC.

NOOOO!

EA trying to take over Bioware from the inside out can be nothing but bad. Bioware is one of the only GREAT companies left to be touched by the corruption that is EA.

This sucks.

From Wikipedia: In November 2005, it was announced that BioWare and Pandemic Studios would be joining forces, with private equity fund Elevation Partners investing in the partnership. However, both companies will retain their brands and identities.

Riccitiello's company has been funding BioWare for over a year now. Knowing that, it's not terribly surprising they'd take in a former EA exec.

And from the press release I see Bono is one of the main partners of Elevation... I never liked U2 anyway.

It will be the end of Bioware if they allow the EA contaminant anywhere near them.
