Okay IMO this is a wonderful game. It's definitely much better than the beta. My first impressions of the game didn't last long as I realized how incredible the game is, over playing several games and watching the game replays which are easy to play off of GPGnet.
The graphics are simply amazing. Hold spacebar to pan the camera around, for example. Its really cool to see those huge tech 4 bots moving around and blasting stuff.
There is a really good replay to see, search for the player name 'zsinj7' and its the game played on 2-25.2007 with five players. WOW what an amazing game. Over 2hrs long but epic battles throughout. Until you see a game like that played out, you just haven't seen Supreme Commander!
Just like Total Annihilation (which SupCom is based), this game will get better over time as hardware catches up. The game is mostly CPU bound. On my AMD 4200+X2 it plays pretty well but can get choppy when there are a thousand units on the map. But in those moments when there is a lot going on you can slow the game down very easily which is what you'll find yourself doing anyway. It plays very well on my cpu.
For my SB Audigy2 card I had to set my sound acceleration to 'basic' in the DirectX panel (run 'dxdiag') because there is a known bug with some sound cards/drivers. I'm sure it will be fixed before long.
I love TA:Spring, which is a free & open source Total Annihilation remake. I've watched many games from the Spring Battleroom. Having watched several games in SupCom I feel that SupCom is a huge leap in the right direction though it takes getting used to at first. If you like RTS games, you may really love this game. If you don't then take a look at the free demo but just know that at first it might seem odd. Give it some game play and tech up to lvl 3 and 4!
