I didn't notice the new spacing until someone mentioned it a couple of days ago. And I develop websites. It loads fast, is clean and the information is instantly accessible, good enough for me.

So I went and judged a science fair today at the local major high school.
I was just judging the chemistry category.

Of the ~50 entries, only 3 people had already had chemistry or was currently taking chemistry….

There where a few really really good ones, but most where horrible. I asked them why they chose what they did, and most answered it was just to get extra credit, they had no interest in what they where doing (and it shows). A few that where ok, but again most sucked.

And after talking with most of the kids, and just asking them simple questions about what they did; general science/knowledge questions, the future of the human race is screwed.

I would not waste your time trying to recycle, or use less power or pollute less, no point.

Not exactly, but close. It's something I've picked up in a "designer's" world: it's used a lot when describing text in a brochure that's too big or juniorized, like the designer went for in-your-face instead of sleek and sophisticated. Basically, it implies something's out of place. Why "horsey"? I have no idea.

Unless you're printing out the entire main page I can't figure out how the spacing causing a longer page is any sort of legitimate gripe. You could, perhaps, be concerned about over-taxing your scroll wheel but c'mon now.

4600 hours / 24 = ~192 days, a little over 6 months if it's on constantly. That's not *that* bad if the lifetime of the bulb is good.

But then there's the energy saving bulbs which are what $2 or something for a 70w equivalent that consumes 12w, and it lasts for like 10 years or something.

In my humble opinion, the spacing seems to do no more than increase the size of the page without adding additional content.

It's similar to when one of my students hands in a paper that has clearly had the margin size, font size, and spacing increased enough to meet the page requirement without having to do any additional writing. It's an overabundance of blank space; In other words, it looks padded.

My thoughts the same. It doesn't really make it harder to read, it just doesn't "look" right. I guess it could be years of reading the other format, but I think it is more of a disproportional amount of space vertically, whereas in order to balance it out, other things should be increased slightly as well. The left margin could use another 10-20px, the blue headlines could get bumped up by 2-3px, and the line-height could afford another 2 pixels and it wouldn't look so bad anymore.

Edit: it should be noted that I'm in the business of web development so I tend to be highly critical of stuff like this, more so than most.

This is widely known amongst gear heads.
Hell, even not being a gear head, motorcycle enthusiast in my area get together and hook up their bikes to recalibrate the computer to get better performance and fuel efficiency for our elevation.

It is recommended to tweak when you travel to higher elevations. Does it help? Yes. Is it NEEDED? Guess not.
