Quake 4 Community Map Pak Submissions

id Software announces that after collecting the submissions for the Quake 4 Community Map Pak they are offering all the user-created QUAKE 4 maps they've received in one 86.2 MB bundle (thanks Frans). The bundle offers all 34 maps in the competition to support the voting process to select the winning entries.

That link doesn't work, I suppose that is why he didn't use it.
Ah you are right. It only works if you go to the ID site first because they are blocking outside referrers.

Well this will show those tricky bastards. Here's the direct link to the file itself that came up when I clicked it from id's site:

Quake 4 doesn't suffer from consolitis if that's what you're worried about.

The single player was fun, albeit derivative and formulaic...but still fun, and the multiplayer is basically a graphical updgrade of Quake 3. It's worth the $19.99 bargain bin price that it should be going for nowadays.

So how the fuck is Blue NOT linking to the page. It's not dated but it looks as plain as daylight to me.
The link provided is simply a link to id's homepage NOT a direct link to the file to be downloaded. Yes, right now the first news item on id's page is about the map pack, but that won't always be the case. A direct link to the actual file to be downloaded would be convenient and Blue has done that in similar posts in the past.

So, to make it simple enough for you to understand, the download link in the news story should be http://www.idsoftware.com/downloads/shambler.php?id=13018 not www.idsoftware.com

(I love how explaining to idiots why a link should have been provided took longer than providing the actual link myself. Hopefully someone else will benefit from it.)

As was said in an earlier thread, I remember the days when I was in a rush to read every .plan file from id, but a few years ago, I gave up on giving too much of shit from most developers.

I sorta wish I'd upgraded my system to play Q4 online as I imagine I'd enjoy it, I just fired up Q3 the other day and I love it.

Anyways, you perhaps I shouldn't call you dumb shits or anything like that, but the link goes to the top of their front page that looks like this:
==========
With the deadline having been reached, all of the entries for the Quake 4 Community Map Pak have been submitted. We have compiled the 34 maps into one pak for play testing prior to the upcoming voting process. Thanks to all of the contestants for their submissions and good luck!

You can't click the "id Software" link in the press release and get the link from there?
That link simply goes to the id home page. Blue has provided direct download links in other news stories. It would be convenient and appropriate here as well.

It didn't come from any console.

but sadly doom3 networking and 60fps cap really just don't cut it for real competitive play.

players just aren't there, I heard somewhere even the CPL's dropped it for some q3 mod?

How about a direct download link to the bundle?

Came from the console?

I don't believe Q4 was a port.

I was a big fan of Q3 but i never gave this one a chance since it came from the console. So i am stuck with Battlefield series.

I like it every now and then...if you're not great at the twitch dm games then you probably won't like it since the skill level in most servers is really good...but I'm having some fun with it
