Unreal Tournament 3 Mania

A small flurry of activity accompanies the news of the Unreal Tournament 3 name change (story), starting with the release of some new screenshots on GameSpot. There's also a new in-game movie, available in one or both of two resolutions (one of them very high) on 3D Gamers, ComputerGames.ro, Gameguru Mania, Gamer's Hell, GameSpot, and Worthplaying. Finally, hands on previews of Epic's coming shooter sequel from a Midway press event can be found on BeyondUnreal, Computer and Video Games, FiringSquad, and Games Radar.

...how the beginning of this "teaser" trailer is purposely made to look like the intro sequence of the original UT (1999)? Obviously, the graphics have gotten a spiffy upgrade... Guess it would've been more obvious if they'd used a woman's voice for the "history" narration of the Tournaments...

Hopefully, it's also some kind of subliminal message that the game will indeed be more like UT99... As much as I enjoyed 2K4, there was just something about 99 that made it infinitely more enjoyable. Hopefully, UT3 will be a blast!

On a side note, it's a shame that Unreal 2 XMP (eXpanded MultiPlayer)/2K4 XMP never caught on... I thought it was quite an enjoyable spin on CTF - w/jetpacks and great level design. (Such as the one in the asteroid field.)

Well, this is a multiplayer game so storyline isn't much of a priority. If this was a single-player game, that would be a different story (hah, I crack myself up).

Not interested in UT3, I need Unreal 3 based on the Unreal 1 universe.
Hear Hear, the original unreal universe had alot of room for some interesting story lines and worlds, a shame they threw it all away. The whole mining war thingy the trailer showed off looks like an engine showcase without any serious storyline or depth.

Just because somebody doesnt complete it in 8 hours "total" doesnt mean they suck, perhaps they take their time and enjoy it or do you suffer from the "im the center of the universe" obnoxious attitude that we see in games nowdays.

Um, it takes 8 hours if you spend your time. If I had rushed through the game, I would have beat it in like 5 hours. And in Prey, you are the center of the universe. The game revolves around you, as do most single-player games.

I find it humorous that you lament the maturity of online gamers when you yourself confessed to being a TKer in T2.

Trailer or ad, those graphics are amazing. Yup, I'm a graphics whore.

This trailer, for all it's hi-rez glory, just sucks. It spends almost no time at all revealing what the game is like and invests extra time pointing out irrelevant stuff like how the producer also invested money in Gears of War, as if that's somehow related. I was disappointed. I wanted to look at the game, not at how fabulous Epic thinks they are or see vidscreens on the wall showing flashbacks of previous UT incarnations.

I see Steam is getting alot of titles that are on discount now, good to see. I don't use steam currently for my purchases.

I still order mostly through play.com, it works out similar pricing anyway (including delivery).

HL2: Episode One at 10 GBP too would be a pretty good price.

I think I paid a total of £11.24 for Ep1 on preorder from Steam... $17.95+VAT at the exchange rate back then wasn't bad at all

$10 USD is approximately £5 GBP And not forgetting this £9.99 includes delivery across Europe

Player1: Fag!
Player2: Y0 kiss yer mamma bum
Player3: You are gay!
*endless voice bind spams as Player 4 takes a retarded fit*

This is one of the reasons I shall not buy UT3.

Yup this is why gaming today is crap, a bunch of sociopaths seem to always be on the servers.

You don't have to play it straight through. It's 8 hours total. Unless you really suck. This is not to say that I didn't find the game enjoyable. I thought it was good fun. Definitely worth $10. As for HL2:EP1... not so much. Worth $5 max.

What alternatives do you suggest? No way would I pay 30 GBP for it not even 20, so at 10 GBP its a pretty decent price.

HL2: Episode One at 10 GBP too would be a pretty good price. I can see play.com reducing that once ep two is out.

I unlike some do not play computer games for 8 hours straight in a row How sad

Just purchased Prey for 9.99 (delivered) http://www.play.com/Games/PC/4-/688401/Prey/Product.html

HL2: Episode one (once play.com drop its price when ep2 is released)
HL2: Episode Two including Portal and Team Fortress 2 mods
QuakeWars: Enemy Terratory

I think that will keep me busy for a while (Who pays full price for anything thesedays anyway )

.. because I brings hope they are going back to the UT original roots rather than the 200x crap. Than again most likely not as they cater for the majority which unfortunately is the retarded ones.

If UT3 ends up with nearly the sort of quality that UT2004 had on the PC, I'll eat my words.

Well then I hope you're either hungry, or not planning on saying much from here on in.

This is Epic -- hand-wringing is really quite misplaced at this stage.

When you're firing away with the minigun in Serious Sam you just KNOW you're inflicting massive damage on your targets.

I'll probably pick this one up, but the demo was a bit.......lacking. I couldn't get a feel for the game, there was too much other junk, like the intro credits. It was short, and dark. It could be good, but I can't tell from the movies and media I've seen so far.

I like big guns, I cannot lie.

Games like Blood, UT, Serious Sam, Painkiller, etc., I've always found lots of fun because the weapons were so over-the-top and powerful.

When you're firing away with the minigun in Serious Sam you just KNOW you're inflicting massive damage on your targets. Good times.

Realism is fine, but arcade shooters have their place too.
