I had my account cancelled for about a year. I reactivated my account and with casual play have reached level 63 and the XP bar is still blue.
I have to say Blizzard did an excellent job. The bugs are small. I have a frost mage with summoned water elemental. I hope their latest patch fixes a problem that was driving me crazy. The pet console wouldn't appear after summoning. I'd reload the console UI all the time but it was cumbersome. At this point I've basically gotten use to my pet defending me, but I'll be glad when I can use it for aggressive actions.
Outland is amazing. The new neutral mega city, Shattrath, has everything you need from the mainland, excluding Auction Houses. I hope Blizzard will add one to the city. In the interim though there are portals to all major Horde and Alliance cities including Exodar and Silvermoon. As a mage I also learned Shattrath Teleport. Portal to Shattrath will be available at 65.
I came back to WOW with 80g in my pocket and within a week it's hit 300 gold. I've not changed my play style beyond selling nice green and blue loot in the AH for reasonable prices. I've also notices many items such as Magister's Armor - that used to cost 100g or more - is now available for around 10-15 gold. There are also these items called Motes. Everyone says they are the "next thing." All motes are selling well on the AH. I sold a couple Motes of Life for 1-2 gold a piece. Additionally most Outland quests reward on average a gold and a half per completed quest. All of this I think has helped correct the economy for now.
However level 70 is coming... which is this whole other world. Armored Flying Drakes are, from what I've read, around 5,000 gold and require 200+ mount riding skill. Plus there's tons of purple and orange level 70-only loot in Karazhan and so forth. You can buy epic items from NPCs in Shattrath pending you have certain object. None of them take traditional WOW currency. I think it will be interesting to see what happens when many hit level 70.
Beyond all the unique level 70 items many past instances like Onyxia and MC will be more accessible for many.
I'm being very critical of Blizzard, and they delivered on my expectations. Not many companies can pull that off but Blizzard has this uncanny ability to do it.
I think it says something when I'm in the LOTRO closed beta and I would much rather play Burning Crusade.
Sorry about this long post... lots of stuff to say about BC.
