I dunno if it's just me... but for some reason the screenshots involving some weird little girl and a deep diving suit doesn't exactly scream "successor of System Shock" to me.

Anyway... I still hope it will be good.

Get your games from GOG DAMMIT!

Many development teams have learned important lessons from previous attempts to bring PC games to the console, though Deus Ex 2 is an infamous example. One of the main things we are doing differently is that we are leading our development efforts with the 360. Therefore all decisions on HUD and gameplay situations are made on the 360 and brought over to the PC to avoid the situations you are thinking about.
Is this supposed to make us feel better or worse about the game?? It certainly doesn't make me feel better about it.

As someone who is a big fan of Irrational Games and System Shock 2 (one of my favorite games of all time), and who has been very excited about BioShock since it was announced, this is very disheartening to hear. The HUD is being designed for the 360, and will then be ported to the PC version?!? I'm not sure they've learned any lessons about porting games across platforms at all.

It sounds as though the person who wrote this seems to think people were disappointed in Deus Ex 2 because it was ported from the PC to the Xbox (which it wasn't, I don't believe). I think the vast majority of people who were disappointed in Deus Ex 2 were disappointed because of the limitations and differences of the console, which had a strong negative impact on the PC version of the game (and indeed the game as a whole).

To quote Chris Kline, BioShock Lead Programmer over at Through the Looking Glass ( http://www.ttlg.com/forums/showthread.php?p=1549285#post1549285 )
That FAQ entry is not accurate. According to Ken Levine, it was written by our new community development liaison who is coming to Boston this week to get fully briefed on our development process.

Consolitus has become the norm.

It's like giving everybody an STD and then telling them they are perfectly healthy because everybody else has it too.

That statement would be a little more comforting if he included what the ACCURATE entry should have been.

situations like: it being a halfway decent UI on the PC version, or the gameplay being tailored for more than sugar loaded ADD kiddies

ahhh - the almighty buck .. fucking bow down and worship that shit

"It's being made for the PC with the 360 version being the port"

'Successor to System Shock' shouldn't mean an exact copy with the same premise and better graphics. The "shock" theme, that is, the ever-present dread and tension rolled into a deep, immersive world, is what I'm looking forward to. This game is gonna rock.

EDIT: Now it looks like its the other way around next thing we will here Vista only!

There's no way Irrational could be that stupid. At least I hope there isn't...

Hang on, wait one second. I was under the impression that Deus EX 2 sucked because they made it for the Xbox. The whole thing dripped with the slimy goo of console controls.

Here's looking forward to shitty UI/inventory, sluggish, slow responding enemies to compensate for slow turning controls because of the xbox360 controller instead of keyboard/mouse, less interesting dialogue/backstory so the Halo jocks don't have to read as much and get down to teabagging baddies and drooling at teh amazzzing water effexxxs LOLZZZ. Viva progress!

I could have sworn that I read an interview with Irrational devs about the cross-platform issue and how it affects PC gamers. I am nearly certain that I read a bit about how the game has two different codepaths for control and menus on PC and Xbox 360. They talked about how they recognized that designing the whole thing for one platform would cripple the functionality on the other.

Also, that Q&A entry was written by someone who doesn't even know how the game is being developed. As far as I can tell the entire purpose of a "community liaison" is to make stuff up that they think will sound good (but usually doesn't.)

Unless my mind is playing tricks on me with respect to the interview, I don't think we have much to worry about. Who are you going to believe - the developers or some PR drone?

Why is everyone talking about Deus Ex 2? It doesn't exist.

Invisible War was not Deus Ex 2, no more than Deadly Shadows was Thief 3. They were console spinoffs.

I like the way you think, I just wish I could forget DE2 that easily.

About the whole UI issue: Irrational isn't that type of company, no way. I cannot believe even for an *instant* that they would fall into the same trap DE2 did. No way. These guys aren't doing it for the money...hell, if they were, then why did they even make a Freedom Force sequel knowing full well only diehard Irrational fanboys (like me) would buy it? The sales on it were horrible, even though it kicked ass.

I have faith.

I also think their "community liason" needs to know a wee bit more about gaming before he sleeps climbs his way up through the ranks any further.

Levne does not say or even think like that from what I can tell in all his interviews, hell even his post here on Blue's.
That is clearly someone whom is confused and proabably used to work for aconsole PR.
Clearly they need a few lessons about the game and how not to sent Shockwaves accross the world by making seemingly innocuous statements.

Trust me, most of the names I have been called you can't translate in any language...they're not even real words as much as a succesion of violent images.
