I love how the Shadowrun preview mentions that "As with Xbox Live, PC users will have to pay a monthly fee to play games over Live Anywhere" whereas the Halo 2 article makes no mention of it. Both games are going to use Microsoft's Live service so it will be interesting to see if Halo 2 players have to cough up the subscription fees as well.

It's just a matter of time before most if not all PC games use Microsoft's Live service. If I were Gamespy I would be trying to find a new business model. It is about to become the next Netscape.

17 gigs? Either the programmers don't know how to compress or the game has the best graphics Evar.

From reading forums:
Vanguard is a month from release but its a premature release as the developer has run out of money and SOE is not prepared to fork out more. Its got lots of technical issues, requires a very very beefy PC and still gives poor performance for small average results and has lots of bugs remaining. The game install is 17 gigs. Graphics are on par if slightly better than EQ2. Some good scenery. Animations are reported to be wooden and lacking polish.

As far as gameplay goes its supposed to be like EQ1 with lots of WoW bits tacked on. Its entirely PvE focused although it will have at least 1 PvP server type. The combat is fairly standard MMORPG WoW/EQ clone affair. UI is a WoW clone. You can solo early levels but content is fairly unforgiving and not grouping makes things harder after the first 20 levels. Mid- High level content is currently a bit sparse. The crafting supposed to be good. The game world is massive but apparently lack polish. Lots of races and lots of classes. Character creation is good but has limited hair options. It adds a diplomacy system to gain favour with NPCs like Oblivion but more of a simplified Magic the gathering affair (I don't know the exact mechanics).

Don't get excited, if you can get into open beta and your realy keen do so. If not wait for release and read the reviews. Personaly from what I've read I'd wait at least 6 months after before considering getting into the game.

What about Halo 3? It's not coming to PC yet so it is only in 360 previews.

some of the developers? Sigil Online was founded by Brad McQuaid and Jeff Butler - 2 of the original people that worked on EQ since 96... and yeh they pulled even more of the later EQ teams

i just figured they would at least make an attempt to break from that old formula, but i was wrong apparently

I'm pretty sure some of the developers making it were from EverQuest.

If you like grinding, it's for you. Seriously, you'll grind and grind and grind.

All the review sites are gushing over Vanguard. I'm having a hard time believing that it's the perfect game ever created.. like every other game previewed. Anyone here in the beta? Is it worth trying?
