I thought that Person of the Year article was quite interesting. Idealistic and perhaps too optimistic, but this website is a perfect example of the kind of thing it's talking about. 90% of the game news here is irrelevant to me - I won't buy the games, or I'll forget about them by the time they're released. But I come here for the boards, Blue's community of users who make (in my opinion) the most interesting and informative parts of the site for him. User-generated content is the way forward. Look at games like Spore. I have way more fun with the HL2 SDK than with HL2, even though I'm no DaveJ at mapping.

Apart from sites where I go there for OpEd, a good deal of the sites I frequent have some form of user interaction - BBC, Amazon, Wiki, etc.

So well done everyone, congrats on the award. At the very least, for making the internet so great for me, you deserve it

Now have a pearfect Christmas

What in God's name are you playing for? To lose by 7 instead of 14? So it doesn't look so bad or something?

My university's basketball team is similarly stupid. I can't count the number of times that we've been down by 3 with 10 seconds left on the clock, and our partially retarded point guard will go for a lay-up. Dumbass, even if you do make the lay-up, which is no sure thing given your complete inability to play basketball, you're still gonna lose the game by a point! Go for the three, retard, it's the only way you can still win!

I haven't turned on my PC in well over a week. The Power Mac (even the iBook) has/have gotten plenty of use, though...

On to other things (rant).

I'm farking tired. Worked 68 hours total from Monday to Sunday, with a portion of that having to be on my feet anywhere from four to eight hours straight (minus 30 minutes for lunch on the 6+ hr days, far and few between). Having pulled both Sunday and Saturday this weekend, I've effective ly worked seven days in a row.

Now, I'm usually a nice guy, maybe with a bit of a cynic or sarcastic in me every once in a while... but today things just went downhill and I was pretty much bitching about everything that bothered me more overtly than ever. Take, for example, the farking Christmas commercialization crap (FCCC?) that ensues at this time of year. Well, I pretty much snapped during my half hour break (at 3:00pm) as I was standing in line at the food court to pick up lunch, and all of a sudden this terrible-sounding horrid-computer-MIDI-synth-fake-orchestral-and-brass-instruments music disguising itself in Christmas merriment started up with a "bang", and this dance troupe of girls got up on stage, dancing, with one of them apparently positioned as lead singer.

My ears started gushing blood as soon as she emitted a tone. Grating, her voice was. Seasons gratings. My eardrum was cheese, and that event was the grater.

Okay, enough bad similes and metaphors. Anywho, I just started b*tching from that point until the time my break - most of which actually was spent in the Waldenbooks store backroom - ended.

My shift today was supposed to end at six in the evening. I'd relieved one person for his break around 15 minutes before that hour - at the other ass end of the mall (calendars!). Turns out that, well, something got messed up with scheduling breaks at that point, so I stayed on nearly an hour later... on my feet.. which even by six were starting to ache (and yes, I was wearing the new, much better shoes..). I also found myself making idiotic mistakes on the register; though they were correctable, they were becoming ever more frequent.

Can you tell that I'm (probably) just a little burnt out?

Dan X0|

EDIT: On the other hand, I suppose I shouldn't complain, as there's much worse one could be doing for work.

NFL coaches are the dumbest motherfuckers on the planet. (I'm gonna go all Hubie Brown for a second).

You're Tom Coughlin. Your team just gave up 15 points in short succession. You're down by fourteen with 2:42 left on the clock. What do you do?

A) Give up
B) Try to come back
C) Who the fuck knows.

Answer, in this case : C.

See, in my opinion, when you're fourteen down, you've already lost. So you can't really fuck anything up if you gamble a bit. At most you'll lose by 21. Big deal.

Down by fourteen, you need to score twice, WITHIN THE TIME LEFT IN THE GAME. (NFL coaches never seem to understand this. They think the clock wil just keep going endlessly.)
So once you break the fifty yard line, you need to send five guys deep, and chuck it into the end zone four times, and pray for a touchdown. Then pray for the recovery of the onside kick, and then you get to chuck it into the endzone four more times.

The odds of this succesfully happening is about 2%, I'm guessing. However, IT IS THE ONLY THING YOU HAVE TIME FOR. The odds of what Tom Coughlin did being succesful are approximately 0.0%. What in God's name are you playing for? To lose by 7 instead of 14? So it doesn't look so bad or something?

Slowly driving down the field, eating up the clock, RUNNING THE DAMN FOOTBALL (and in situations where he HAS the lead, and SHOULD run the football, he's calling for pass plays!) and watching the clock expire. Then with 20 seconds left, calling a timeout. STILL not going for the endzone. SPIKING THE FUCKING FOOTBALL WITH SEVEN SECONDS LEFT?!

So did you really figure you could score twice with seven seconds left?

Congratulations Tom Coughlin. You are TRULY the dumbest retard in the NFL. And with Art Shell walking around again, that's not easy to do.

By the way, this guy makes approximately 2.3 million dollars for being completely useless and retarded.

(Note, I don't give a crap about the Giants, but such a level of stupidity is just truly spectacular.)

Based on how the Giants are performing in the red zone, I suspect that that the pears are probably pretty bruised by now. I know if I had them, my tv would be splattered with them by now.

Those roads make US Highway 2 through the North Cascades look like a nice suburban drive.

They are. Outside of your more industrialized Asian and South American countries (and then it's not necessarily guaranteed), those in West Europe and the North America easily have the highest road and maintenance standards for their motorways.

I've always liked driving in Germany. The major roadways being designed by US engineers to facilitate high military traffic in case of war with the Soviets, they were definitely improved upon for civilian use. Such a *major joy* to drive on, especially where no speed limit is present.
