Battlefield 2142 Hotfix

A hotfix is now available for Battlefield 2142 to address an issue in DICE's military shooter sequel following the recent version 1.05 patch that causes crashes in Titan Mode. There is a new version 1.06 client patch, and new unranked dedicated servers for Windows and Linux. A full list of mirrors for all three downloads can be found on the Battlefield Franchise Website.

Also isn't it sad that in the year 2142, Intel is still using the Core Duo 2?

You have a point Jerykk, but my counterpoint is here. With cars, you have no alternative. ALL cars have their logo, however you could take it off I guess?

As with clothing, you can easily choose to buy a shirt, even from the companies I mentioned, that have NO logo on them at all, except maybe on the inside tag. This would be the same for your food store, there are vege's and fruits that have no logo on it, even meets, some cereals etc.

What I am saying is that we can have an effect on certain things, not all (Cars being a good point of yours). But this in game advertising will not bring the price of the game down at all for us, nor will it allow EA or others to place more beta testers.

We have become the beta testers.
Games have become more expensive to produce.
Workers have been laid off.
Deadlines are still the same.
Post support is automated, or sent offshore, saving these companies millions, yet they still dole out increasingly buggy games.

To me we are heading for another game fall out as seen in the late 80's.

Consoles are $400-600 now, games are reaching a consistent $60-70 mark.

The idea's, such as Gears of War, are so overly done it isn't even funny. Fewer and fewer games interest me and my fellow 30+ year old friends, the ones making these games.

I am losing interest. I am pretty sick of being taken advantage of. I am buying fewer and fewer games, movies and music every year.

Not sure what my point is....

Oh, and if you're a person that walks around with a store bought shirt that says GAP, Nike, Addidas etc on it where all can see? Please, shoot yourself mass consumer for you will NEVER get it and we don't need your kind to breed. Ever.

Do you drive a car? If so, you might as well shoot yourself right now because every time you take that baby on the road, you are giving free advertising to whatever company made it. Ever bought a soda from a vending machine? Suicide plz because if anyone saw you drinking it, that would be advertising. Been to a supermarket lately? If you have, you should shoot yourself because just walking around a supermarket gives them free advertising.

The USA is a capitalist society. Anything you do probably acts as advertising for some company.

On topic: The game is fun, not as fun as BF2 to me only because of the fantasy settings. Also, the inability to crush simple things like benches, light posts, gates and fences etc in any vehicle and walker basically ruins this game for me.

Off topic (Slightly): In game advertising now. Then soon, just like the movie theatres and cable television, you pay twice for a game eventually. Why do we as consumers allow companies to double charge us? I laugh at ANYONE that has cable tv. I say "SO you pay $35-85 a month and there are commercials every 10 minutes, for 10 minutes, and they cut out your choice of nudity and profanity (if you want that)? Great system, great product moron."

If you, we, us don't stop in game advertising, then we will be forever doomed to endure what Movies and TV already do for us.

Oh, and if you're a person that walks around with a store bought shirt that says GAP, Nike, Addidas etc on it where all can see? Please, shoot yourself mass consumer for you will NEVER get it and we don't need your kind to breed. Ever.

#32 in case unlocks were not enough they decided to reward gamers with in game advertising which by the way was probably the real reason patch 1.05 was crashing in titan mode. the initial solution was to delete the downloaded cache of advertisements which happens to coincide with the end of each round. me thinks they f'ed up the source ip for the adverts and have now fixed it to prevent the game from crashing.

As for the Battlefield series being a 'realistic' combat game?

Yes, notice that I put "realistic" in quotation marks, implying sarcasm. BF, along with CS, has realistic weapons, settings, etc, while the gameplay is anything but. Hence, the quotation marks.

As for 2142 bringing nothing new to the series, the unlock and Titan Gameplay are heads and sholders above the previous Battlefield series, and the series has been the most solid overall in the series as well.

The problem I have with unlocks is that they are a cheap way of getting people to keep playing your game. People shouldn't need to be rewarded for playing. Playing should be a reward in and of itself. When games have to resort to ranking systems and unlockables in order to maintain a player base, the fundamental gameplay is probably too shallow.

Hey Beamer ever see the old comic someone did about Quake 2, showing all the different weapons, ammo, powers ups all fiting into a nifty little backpack?

Cause all your doing is complaining about the infantry speed? This ain't quake, you want quake and high speed rail guns then go play Quake 4.

i was one of the skeptics when 2142 came out. mostly because of the bugs in bf2. but after playing the demo and giving titan mode a try i was hooked. bugs and all... bf2142 is fun. well, most of the time when the game doesnt:

1) crash randomly when browsing servers.
2) you dont have access to your unlocks on a ranked server.
3) server browser decides that you always want to play conqueror co-op.
4) key bindings switch back to default settings after playing many rounds on custom settings.
5) you dont end up playing on a ranked server, with punkbuster enabled nonetheless, where someone is using the silo hack that causes the missiles to fire at a VERY FAST rate resulting in the destruction of the opposing teams titan in less than a minute!

I don't care about bugs.
I don't play because the game feels like crap.

When they learn to make a game where infantry doesn't feel like wading through waist-high water I'll consider playing.

I sometimes get the feeling that people who don't actually play the BF-games complain more about the bugs in them than people who do play them.

Why dont they just deploy patches at least down the wire instead of all this hosting bru ha ha mess.

I expect that from ANY online service, to be kept up to date without me having to chase around ad sites to find a link.

Its all part of the "service", or rather, SHOULD be.

Um DG what all bugs are you having?

Besids having animations not playing for weapon reloads (never again after the first patch) and the Crash after Titan game was over (just patched) I've never had any other sort of bug. So I'd really like to know all of the bugs you've been having.

As for 2142 bringing nothing new to the series, the unlock and Titan Gameplay are heads and sholders above the previous Battlefield series, and the series has been the most solid overall in the series as well.

I mean if you are playing the game and think it's aweful then by all means say what is bad about it cause I've had alot of fun in 2142.

As for the Battlefield series being a 'realistic' combat game? MUHAHHAHAHAAAAAAAAA *cough weeze* MUHAHAHAAAAAAAAA. Go play the Rainbow Six series (sides Lockdown) or GRAW, or America's Army. The BF Series has always been a (for lack of better wording) action shooter type game.

But I have to agree with what others have posted, if you only played the Demo (which I think was a horrible way to show off the game especially without unlocks) then I suggest you find a friend that has a copy and play it for a few hours.

2142 is a fun game -- it's funny that most of the people on blues that bitch about it and make fun of it and call it buggy etc etc haven't spent 10 minutes playing it.
No, it's those of us who can't quite believe we paid for and some even still playing something quite so awful.

It is fun, it's generally a great concept. But "mostly bug free" what game is it you're playing? It's no exaggeration to say BF2142 is easily the worst-quality product I have ever bought for more than £20.

It's the quality assurance and their attitude towards it - they knew about the major exploits and worst bugs, it'd been well pointed out during the beta. They released it anyway.

I wont be buying any DICE game until I start hearing over and over about how they've turned QA around. I wont be takign any chances on any EA games either.
