New Ship to Sail, CS Cheaters Banned, & More

A new Steam Message is online (thanks Frans), clueing us into the latest hot happenings on the Steam service. The message mentions the availability of Medieval II: Total War, a new edition of the Steam Hardware Survey, the fact that the new Valve Anti-Cheat Technology has banned 10,000 cheaters, at least scratching the surface in the world of Counter-Strike: Source, the coming of RACE next week, and that a new single-player edition of The Ship is coming on November 20.

Great, what did they do, ban a few thousand for using a simple wall hack? While groups like MSX operates freely and legally collecting cash for their monthly cheating service that no one can catch in-game or stop via legal means. I feel so safe.

People have known who he is for awhile now. Thats what baffles me. That attitude he has will be his downfall though. He's going to rip off the wrong coder, probably from eastern europe where they don't have second thoughts about putting a bullet in your head. If not that he'll tick off some psychopath gamer who will simply go to his home and set him on fire.

What that doesnt tell you is the new steam update also stopped all client exec, meaning you can now rate and cvar hack all you like as blockers like cvarx and zblock dont work anymore. This patch has screwed things up so badly for admins its a joke. It also broke most admin mods, most event scripting and all tk punishments. Everyones rate hacking and tking now as theres nothing to stop it rofl. gg valve.

Valve used to be okish, in that it supported the mod community, when in reality its no better than EA or Sony now. Valve couldnt give a fig about mods these days, only the bottom line.

why is it every time Valve releases a patch or changes anything in the slightest people start acting like they purposely implemented some kind code that causes catastrophic problems for everyone. 9/10 when I read posts like this I go to a few forums or talk to a few people and turns out a handful of users are experiencing something much less apocalyptic.

lol@hump

You obviously dont admin source servers like I do. You can rate hack, turn of all props, ambient sounds and also use transparent textures now with no 3rd party app to block them. Valve catching 12000 in Vac is a joke when theyve disabled all league/tournament anticheat devices by default. Connecting to a server with CALenforce (CAL anticheat) or any other blocker now bans you from the server before you connect if you dont adjust your client settings in your config.

I help run a are a mult-gaming community and after the patch our CSS servers and DoDS servers are empty. The only servers busy at the moment are vanilla, and going on unprotected servers is funny in a way because they are full of nubs hacking the crap out of them. Try it for yourself.

I've found that 90% of the Source community is bots anyways. Seriously, 3 AM and the top 200 servers on my server list are all 15/16 players... all bots.

Horrible.

Concise and truthful. Well done, fredrickson.

Why the hell didn't Valve code in some additional admin tools when they made CS:S? Admin mods were by far the most popular mods for the original CS, and I would much rather they made them themselves instead of relying on the community, if only for the fact that Valve would likely not be subject to the whims of 14-year-olds with rich parents.

The last tactical shooter I can truly say I was happy with was Joint Ops. from Novalogic (I think I remember Fred playing as well)

If they (Nova)put forth more effort and updated their games more often instead of re-packaging Black Hawk Down every 6 months they could have a massive following. Using that terrain engine they could have a persistant war scenario similar to Planetside except with real-world weapons.

I still dig CS:S above just about any other online game.

But I only play bots, so I don't count. Bots are way more entertaining than humans. No cheating. And a constant challenge, so if you're screwing up it's your own fault.

Trying to be the best online got old when I no longer had more than 3 or 4 hours a week to play.

edit - constant as in not changing, not as in constantly challenging.

Your eloquence is staggering.

Seriously, not everybody is able or willing to compete with the "kids who dont have a life" faction, nor the "assholes who cry and whine and bitch" faction, or the "hack user and cheater faction". Not to mention the huge intersection between those groups.

So why bother with all those idiots in the net? An FPS is in effect no more than a nice reflex and reaction game. Abstracted, its not anything more then "click the right pixel". I play it to relax, and not to increase my epenis by getting the idea i am "better" than somebody else on the internet.

We can confirm, despite a European shortage of the Nintendo Wii consoles, that Play.com should be able to supply your pre-ordered Nintendo Wii at launch.

I don't play CS online or offline because I think it's an utter piece of crap, but I'm guessing the bot AI starts to get predictable after a while, just like all other AI. The appeal of playing online is that humans are far less predictable and they actually adapt to your tactics. I also have yet to see any bot that can actually ski in Tribes. 'nuff said.

No. I just like a constant challenge.
Online challenge is a variable. As are the idiots. And lag. And server changes. It gets tiring.

I'd rather have full control over my gaming experience.
