If you are going to install, install RC-2. However ATi's drivers aren't quite up to par. My 9600XT doesn't work with Aero at this time, and RC1 drivers don't work with RC2.

Media Center is interesting. However, I'm thinking I'll be reinstalling Gentoo and using MythTV as I know I can get hardware acceleration in X, and honestly I don't think I'll gain anything from using Vista over Gentoo.

You'll want to check this site and others for hardware information, make sure your stuff will work: http://www.iexbeta.com/wiki/index.php/Windows_Vista_Hardware_Compatibility_List

Hey 'Pig, what's your betting line on the game Sunday?

You know, last year they might have pulled it off because of how good the defense was playing. This year, with what should be an upgraded defense... I don't know, I'm not optimistic. I'd feel a lot better with Dilfer - not too sure about Wallace.

Does anybody use Pando?
I was looking over my brother's PC (needed new antivirus installed) and saw he had it installed.

Haven't used it, don't really want to research it - anyone know if I shold tell him not to use it? Doesn't look like something he should be using.

Hello,
I am thinking about installing the Windows Vista RC1 preview on my computer... does anyone happen to know if this is likely to cause my installed games to stop working? Particularly HL2... If anyone has any experiance I'd apprecaite your input.

As an upgrade?
Or do a fresh install?

They way I read it is an upgrade.
I wouldn't put my money on all of your games working when you are done.
(I don't have any dev boxes at home anymore - so I haven't tried it - someone will most likely chime in with a tried response with similar results. hehehehe)

/edit: Was working on something and had a thought - isn't there a time response on RC1? Or don't they do that anymore? ie: Will quit working etc after day X? Or something else weird?

$.50 for a video game? Man, that game would have to be at least 10 years old. $1 for recent games is pretty common.

Why I, also, quit going to arcades.
Funny thing is - I was living with a girlfriend, and I bought her a Ms.PacMan cocktail arcade game. We agreed that we would keep it locked and plug it with quarters whenever we wanted to play. Sometime after I moved out, she had it for about a year, said she counted the money and there was only $100.00 or so dollars in it! Puts things into perspective as to why arcades are becoming something of the past. And we played the hell out of that thing!!! Games could get pretty long though. I can play on a Ms.Pacman for 45+ minutes - and that is not even a really stellar score. (1 game = 25 cents = almost an hour!)

There is a bar here in Minneapolis that the game is pretty beat up, but it is difficult to get play time on it. Probably one of the most played Ms.PacMan cocktail arcades I have ever seen. Quarters get lined up on it, and it could be a few hours before you get a chance to play. Usually play 2 player and winner stays. (always hope you play someone good so you get a chance to run to the can!)

Up to you.

Unless something radical happens, I don't see a real compelling reason to choose one or the other, and both are only an incremental improvement over upconverted DVDs. I'm fine with 2 DVD sets instead of one HD-DVD or Blue-Ray disk, for example. I doubt I would hear any difference audio-wise sitting in my living room - 5.1 DD or DTS is fine with me. I'm sticking with DVD's. Not worth all the extra $$$ if you ask me....

Has anyone picked up a HD DVD player yet? I'm starting to read a lot of good things about the quality of HD and was wondering if anyone had first hand experience? I have no idea as to whether it's a format that will stick around or if Blu-Ray is a better option, but i just read a review of MI:3 on HD and they said it rocked. I personally loved the movie, so i was wondering if it was worth the price. I know the players and movies are a little pricey, but it may be worth it.

edit: and yes, i know we discussed this a month ago, but i'm wondering if I'll have to wait two years for the price to reach a manageable price or it's worth taking the plunge.

They moved the close tab button onto each individual tab,

i'm using it and aside from the 'glassiness' of the tabs, i'm not seeing much of a difference. I was using a theme on the previous version that placed the close box on each of the tabs, so it's not a change for me. i kind of like having them there. i dig the dropdown option on the right to choose a tab to go to. that helps when you've got a bunch of tabs open from the same site and they're all labeled the same except for the end.

Something i didn't notice until i started responding to this post is it's got a built in spell checker. it's underlining words it thinks i've misspelled with a little red dotted line.

Honestly, this version and the new IE7 are starting to look more and more alike to me.

They moved the close tab button onto each individual tab,

You can change this in about:config with browser.tabs.closeButtons. Options are 0-3, with 3 being the old behaviour. I use 2, which removes all close buttons, since I use the middle button or gestures to close tabs.

Other thing you might want to change is browser.tabs.tabMinWidth, which will keep the tabs from scrolling if set to 0. I've got mine set to 7 now, so they still scroll, but not until I hit around 20 tabs.

Isn't it funny how 90% of computer problems can be solved by unplugging the thing, unscrewing the panels, taking wires out and plugging them in again.

The more I think about it the more I think that irritating video problem I had before was to do with the motherboard. While it doesn't do it nearly as much now, I can't get through the starting videos for COD2 without a crash, and DVDs have been a little dodgy. Plus MP3s sound jittery on the onboard sound. When I get a chance I'm going to plug in an old PCI soundcard and disable onboard sound to see what happens.

Plus the broadband monkeys are being slow. How they managed to "lose" an online request to transfer my service is beyond me, but they did.

I once made an "Odor Eater" costume out of a big piece of foam rubber - - it was a hit!

Was it the ball or the flat ones?

My fav one I did was "Dirty Laundry". (Outside of the obvious Batman suit)
I went and bought a $5.00 hamper and cut it so it fit around my waist. Add CLEAN clothes - and good to go.

Anyone tried it yet? I installed it this morning. It really isn't that much different, however in the 2 hours I've been using it, there are two features that have been removed/changed that I don't like. They moved the close tab button onto each individual tab, where the old one had a single close button at the right side of the tab bar. I guess I'll get used to it, but when the tab bar is full, I keep closing the right most tab now instead of closing the current open tab because I'm so used to just going to that one spot to close a tab.

The 2nd missing feature is the ability to use CTRL-M to open your mail client and begin composing a new message. I happen to use Tunderbird for mail.
