Ships Ahoy - Dark Messiah of Might and Magic

Ubisoft announces that Dark Messiah of Might and Magic is shipping, and Arkane's Source engine action/RPG in the Might and Magic setting should hit North American store shelves this week:
SAN FRANCISCO – October 24, 2006 – Today Ubisoft, one of the world’s largest video game publishers, announces that Dark Messiah of Might and Magic™ has released and will be at North American retailers this week.

“Dark Messiah of Might and Magic successfully blurs traditional lines and defines a new approach to action-RPGs for the modern PC gaming audience,” said Tony Key, vice president of marketing at Ubisoft. “Dark Messiah of Might and Magic’s breakthrough game design, combined with the technology and graphic capability the Source Engine brings, signals an exciting new direction for the Might and Magic brand.”

Developed in conjunction with Ubisoft, Arkane Studios (for single-player), and Kuju Entertainment (for multiplayer), Dark Messiah of Might and Magic puts players in a first-person perspective, allowing them to encounter ferocious combat within a dark and expansive fantasy environment.

Powered by an enhanced version of the award-winning Source™ Engine created by Valve to power its Half-Life®2 video game, Dark Messiah of Might and Magic allows players to immerse themselves in an environment that responds and envelops them like never before, thanks to the Source Engine’s exceptional technological enhancements in areas such as character animation, advanced AI, real-world physics and shader-based rendering.

Dark Messiah Might and Magic ships with an ESRB rating of “M” (Mature). The game is available for PC at the manufacturer's suggested retail price of $49.99 for the standard edition, and $59.99 for the Limited Edition.

That's not true, currently all games are unlimited install.
What I wrote IS true. Yes, the games are unlimited install ONLY on the exact same hardware. If you change the hardware signature you must reactivate. It's just like Microsoft's activation only more strict.

Just pull up your email receipt and read it.

or look at http://support.direct2drive.com/ics/support/KBAnswer.asp?questionID=44 , http://support.direct2drive.com/ics/support/KBAnswer.asp?questionID=37 , and http://support.direct2drive.com/ics/support/KBAnswer.asp?questionID=25 .

I've done several reinstalls/hardware changes and have never had any problems authenticating my games
You simply haven't done it enough to reach the limit.

UPDATE: Well I've had my first bad experience with them. I downloaded the file but now I'm on some kind of waiting list to unlock it.
You'll have your second bad experience with them when you change the hardware on your PC or replace it and have run out of available activations for the game.

Usually you only get a maximum of five with Direct-2-Dross games. How many does this one come with (read the fine print in the email purchase rental receipt)?

It's also on sale at direct2drive. I doubt that version installs steam, since they use their own authentication. You usuually just have to authenticate the first time you load the game, then it's unlocked.

UPDATE: Well I've had my first bad experience with them. I downloaded the file but now I'm on some kind of waiting list to unlock it. I downloaded it when it was in the preload stage. It is avalable for download right now unlocked, but for some reason I'm on some kind of hour long waiting list the attemp another unlock.

For anyone in Canada whose looking to get this, Future Shop has it on sale for $39.99CDN until the 29th. It'll be $49.99CDN after that which is still cheaper than the $49.99US for the Steam version (though with the dollar where it is now, that's not as big a difference as it used to be.)

I finally played some of the DMMM SP demo this morning and I thought it was really cool. One of my current faves also happens to be Oblivion.

The DM melee was really cool and reminded me a lot of Oblivion, but I thought it was much faster. I really liked the kicks and using the environment. I doubt that the game will have much if any of Oblivion's open-endedness though.

The Source engine seems to run better on my rig than Oblivion's engine.

I'll be getting this but not on day 1 as I said before. Arx Fatalis was a great great game. GRAW X360 was superior to the PC version. RS: Lockdown was a POS. The X360 demo of RS:Vegas is excellent. Over and out

I wish everyone would stop mentioning Oblivion in the same sentence as Dark Messiah. The two games clearly have nothing but the most superficial of similarities, and it's obviously confusing to people who are only familiar with Bethesda's game.

In RS Vegas they seem to be improving on that by letting you sync your attack with your allies, see under/through closed doors, and repel down buildings.

Which is at least getting somewhere back on track with the series (because you know, counter-terrorist units might have use for those kind of tactics), but after Lockdown, I've shied away from the series altogether.

I wonder if it's a coincidence that the game was developed by Arkane (the Arx Fatalis developers) and was started as Arx Fatalis 2 before being purchased by Ubi and morphed into a M&M game

I was a huge fan of Arx. I remember reading, shortly after it was released, that Arkane studios had one guy working on the Arx Fatalis engine and used nothing but the standard Direct X 7 toolset. Hard to believe, but for it's time it was amazing. I still play it on my old Win2K rig now and again.

Started following Dark Messiah right after I heard Arkane Studios was doing it. Great group of guys.

One of the very few single player games that looks like it wont suck. Hoping for the best. Couldn't care less about the multiplayer.

Just raise your standards and then you will see that there are not too many games to play.
