Quake Maps Source

Planet rome.ro (thanks Daz) now offers the release of the source code for the maps in the original Quake. Here's the accompanying word from John Romero:
Since it's Quake 1's tenth anniversary this year (starting June 22nd) I thought I'd dig up and release all of Quake's original map sources. For all these years the only possible way to glean any information from Quake's internal format was from BSP deconstruction programs - but those had problems with tons of brushes generated from insane BSP splits. So finally, here are the originals with the dust blown off of them, shined-up and zipped up. Have fun, mappers!

What was best about DM1 to me in an early version of Quake was when a map change would cause you to still keep your items from the previous map... I forget how that worked, but nonetheless... We'd go from completing DM6 in a few minutes to needing about 30 to hit the DM1 fraglimit, since the guys with the rocket launcher would almost invariably jump into the lava... Picture an entire server swimming through lava trying to bring out the one backpack with the rockets! Now that's dedication.
