BF2142 Demo Server

A new Battlefield 2142 demo dedicated server is now available, corresponding to the recently released multiplayer demo for EA/DICE's military shooter sequel. The server offers everything needed for a standalone demo server. The download can be found on the EA FTP server (direct link), mirrored on 3D Gamers, FileFront, Gamer's Hell, and Worthplaying.

I'd add:

I think the argument against Titan interior defense completely misses a bigger point of "automated" or perhaps even "player controlled" defenses.
Imagine playing on the demo map with 16 players per side. 5 silos, 1 titan and 2 airships. Now tell me how the fuck am I supposed to engage in "war" and attack/defend 5 silos, defend my titan, attack the enemies titan with 16 people? Won't happen.
So to help out some of the people, I'd love to see automated interior defenses.. and perhaps something that forces all the action into both titans..otherwise, i'll only play on 64 man servers.

"My question is why does the anti-aircraft, just like in battlefield 2, only have 2 missles and there are no missles that auto lock on. I mean, those were invented right?"

Maybe I'm missing something here, but the AA locks on and has infinite missiles.. they just take a moment to recharge.
Where you hear the long, loud beep noise.. thats a lockon. I think the reticle change is bugged and doesnt show it properly though.

"the year is 2142, and that is as far as our soldier can
run"

The QW fellas said that you can sprint as far as you want to in their game, they said that they figured the soldiers of the future would be in even better shape then they are now.
That being said, I don't think the running problem would even be an issue if the map was not so fucking dependant upon armor to get you everywhere. Can you imagine a 32 player server, same sized map and you spawn at a silo without a jeep? holy hell it would take forever to get anywhere and see any action.
Same way in the beta map.

"The only problem I have with the vehicles is they are slow and have no horse power"

There really is no excuse for that.

Also, as people have pointed out, sometimes the map loads without the proper textures. such as the interior to the titan being bland grey, or the outside being entirely dusty brown.

A game where super-soldiers have supreme lazer weapons and can run across a map in 5 mins and can destroy a mech single handedly on their own without breaking a sweat is... BORING

BF2142's unimaginative version of the future is also... BORING.

Come on now it's duh freaking future! The article that Riley linked is spot on. BF2142 is a BF2 mod and a half-assed one at that.

Titans are massive floating aircraft carriers. They're like the Star Destroyers of Battlefield. You capture missile silos to bring down their shields, then you use APC rocket pods or dropships to invade the Titan, blow up its security consoles, and then blow up the core. It's part of the Titan mode in 2142.

Well you can if aimed at 1 of 2 spots, take down a mech/walker with 1 rocket

As for the Titan movement issue it might have been due to the Titan itself moving. I think it's one of the reasons they move so slow is to prevent you from noticing that. Kinda like walking across the wings of a VTOL jet in BF2 and if it starts moving.

Viper your "review" /rant is lame.

Most of your critiques are related to weapons not being what YOU expect in 2142. Sure tehre are some annoyances with recoil or vehicle speed etc. But you know they want to promote some kind of other gameplay ... its called teamwork.

A game where super-soldiers have supreme lazer weapons and can run across a map in 5 mins and can destroy a mech single handedly on their own without breaking a sweat is... BORING

I deplore the AA gun for the fact that it has zero splash damage.
I understand that it's AA and making it damage ground vehicles might overpower it, but sweet chocolate christ, i can lay into the side of an APC with about 40 rounds and i dont hurt it one bit.. but i damage a heli in 1 shot?
Also, dropping the AA charges right at the feet of a baddy does nothing.

I ge this weird bug where i stand completely still in the titan hallways and my guy mysteriously shuffles for no reason. It's as if i'm still moving side to side. -shrug-

Large firefights in the titan make the game laggy as hell.

Then again your playing the demo with millions of noobs. Like any online game you have the inital noob fest, and then they gets thinned out and ya get the hard core guys.

Thats what the favorite servers are for. I play on a select few servers that some pretty set rules. And if they get some idiot in the commander chair they ask them to step down and if they don't they kick them.

But a commander is only as good as his team and vice versa. And 95% of the games I've played in the BF2142 Demo have had no commanders. The other 5% have been great cause they are experienced commanders.

But as you said once people remember how to play the game instead of doing the 'I'm just here to try out X vehicle or X weapon' crap it'll get better.

I'm gonna go against everyone else and say I enjoy it and plan on getting a copy when it comes out. So far with the exception of 2 bugs and splash damage needing to be increased it's a pretty polished game.

Elf:

While I too went the way of cloaked commanders-toys blower upper..
I found that in most public games, the commanders really dont know what they are doing, and i'm just wasting my time by blowing up stuff they never use.
I'm sure that's subject to change as people remember how to play correctly.

In fact, I never once played as a Commander in BF2 (did 1942 have that ability?) Anyhow, I really enjoyed doing it in the beta.. and will likely give it a shot tonight when i play.

I like the unlock system, but I hate the standard 4 class's by themselves.

Like in the beta I played assault class until I unlocked the recon class's carbine rifle (which was nice cause I hate playing sniper). So that with my c4 charges and defibulator and cloak system I could act as a medic and special forces, and get to guys/commander toys undetected.

I had many a good time playing BFV. It really got a bad rap for whatever reason... At least the cone of fire in BFV was decent [even after they nerfed the M60], unlike BF2 and BF2142.

I dug Vietnam too...I loved the radio part best. I liked following closely someone who had his radio on and I would put mine on a different station and create a mix of sorts.

Does BF:2112 allow you to be a long haul trucker and carry Space Debris from one location to another and be rewarded for your overall timeliness?

I actually enjoyed the heck out of BF:V. There were just moments that were really amusing...like being in a tank somebody picked up in a helo...then being dropped...rolling and seeing sky, ground, sky, ground, sky, NVA soldier, sky...

While I'm at it, I think the saddest thing was with all the Mod support that BF1942 got, EA should have just released the expansion kit maps to that community (they weren't selling 'em anyway). There were some great maps on there.

The one thing I hated about the entire BF series was having to dump a magazine into somebody to off 'em. Or even shooting at tanks 3 or 4 times with other tanks.

Ah...Forgotten Hope.

Ya know. 2142 isn't bad. I'm not getting it. But it's not bad.

Not surprising, really -- none of the BF games have been bad (even BF:V had moments of greatness).

The games aren't bad, they can be a hell of a lot of fun, actually.

It's the support for them that absolutely sucks ass. And that's important to keep in mind, because they always need a lot of supporting..

Dice/EA claim that the unlockables would not imbalance the game. They wouldn't lie to us, right?
Anyhow, in the beta, i didn't notice a huge difference with the unlocked crowd, hell, you gain your first unlocks so quick it doesnt appear to make a difference.

I used my regular assault rifle on both sides, the optical camo was cool, but typically used by retard kids and useless snipers (i believe they put that in the game to keep the moron crowd busy). The RDX is good, when you can get it to stick to the vehicle you put it on. The deployable turret was fucking horrible. The one thing I didnt get to use was the top tier unlocked heavy assault rifle, and i think i will try that path first. (if i can find the game for 35 bucks)

I still can't stand the reliance on the vehicles and will skip the huge/slow maps for the heavy infantry maps.

I also hate the musical silos game you play in public matches (2142 is not clan gaming material..too many hacks, bugs, glitches, so i play pub only)
I will welcome the directed firefights that QW will bring.
