No corrupt files were involved and I just used this one story as one example out of many failed uninstalls. The Symantec built-in uninstall works just fine (though it takes ages). Then when you check the registry there are -despite the "successful" uninstall- literally still 100s of Symantec and Live Update keys left over. Their products are just plain shitty. There's no other way to put it.

BTW, why would you "feel for" Symantec? You do realize what's happening here, right? Symantec is basically blaming MS for making Vista too safe. That's like a doc or a hospital blaming a car maker for providing airbags because passengers might not get hurt as much as before (thus less income for the clinic).
It's pretty bold that Syamntec outright admit that they value their business higher than user security. Shows where their real priorities are.

Well, I didn't expect much else from them seeing how crappy their products are anyway. That software is just a bunch of cheap hack jobs that are supposed to give users an illusion of security. I guess they were plain lucky to find enough lemmings that were retarded enough to fall for the fraud. Funny how Symantec is already looking for excuses (by blaming Vista's higher security level) for lost revenue. Has nothing to do with the shittiness of their products, of course, but all with the evilness of MS. Riiiiiight.

Symantec isn't the only one in this fight. But they are the most outspoken regarding microsofts decisions and i feel for them, and the other companies, who for years have provided a needed product and now are having to watch as microsoft is playing games to ensure the public uses its built in security.

Your views of symantec are justified, but you may want to consider that the problem you encountered trying to uninstall symantec in her notebook, could also have been windows in itself causing the uninstall to fail. Who knows there could have been a corrupt file in there.

Symantec can go and fuck themselves. Their products have got to be the worst malware that was ever created.

I just recently needed to call their support hotline because a customer of my company had tried to install Internet Security on her notebook and her PC.
Didn't work because of the activation/licencing model. So needed to remove Internet Security from the notebook to install a new (legit) version of Internet Security.
Mission impossible because the previous version could not be completely removed (yes, tried everything including manual registry clean-up etc).
Then called Symantec support who advised to reinstall Windows.
Asked to let me get this straight and if this was official Symantec policy to require a reinstall of the OS to remove a Symantec product from a system. The dude said 'yep' and I said 'thanks, asshole'.

Come on... what type of fucked up company is that? I have and will continue to advise any of my customers and anyone I know against buying Symantec products. One of the few companies that not only deserves but actually needs to die pretty damned urgently.
