They did. Repeatedly. The fact of the matter is that the cable companies don't know shit.
Plus the Tivo Series 3 is missing important features like TivoToGo and multiroom viewing!
While I agree that not having these suck, they had to remove this from the S3 (at least temporarily) in order to use CableCards at all. CableLabs is anal about this kind of thing. TiVo claims they're still trying to see what they can do on this front though, and I expect people will have hacks to do it in <6 months.
The bugs that ship with the Series 3 are an unwelcome surprise too.

Considering how high the price is, Tivo probably doesn't have that many unhappy customers.
Which is why they're backordered. Right.
And yes, I plan to transfer at least one lifetime sub to a S3. In theory I should be able to recoup the costs of the transfer fee (which sucks IMO) by selling the old S2 on eBay.
