relic has made my favorite and arguably the most innovative RTS game of all time, the Home World series.

I really didn't like Dawn of War at all, so linear and didn't feel like the comics cut scenes.

This game however has been great. I bought it out right and have really enjoyed it despite my loathing of the WW2 genre due to over saturation.

Wish Homeworld 3 was in the works.

Skippable here. I've done that several times on Carentan, trying to get the perfect mission on Expert. Not easy. So many explosions. So many Germans. So sweet.

Thanks, might have to pick it up then.

Hmm, I have an Athlon 64 3200+ (754) with 2 GB of RAM and NVIDIA GeForce 6800 (1152x864 resolution; AGP; anistropic at max; no FSAA; latest non-beta NVIDIA driver). The single player demo got choppy on the second mission in the city when a lot of things were happening. I had to lower the texture details down by two notches to make the game playable.

Anyone here play the game at full details with an older system like mine?

Creston, if you like RTS games then you should absolutly get this game. Everything about this game rocks, the sound, graphics and gameplay are perfect. Completly destructable enviroments are the cats meow, when you have an extended battle in one location the place looks like a warzone.

Ant, I am running everything at high w\1680x1050 res, on a 3.0c with an X800. I have had zero problems with the game, no slow down, no crashes nothing.

I've seen the tank thing before, but I've learned to manage the location of the tank first, then the target. As for MG squads and mortars, I have never seen what you are describing. I would suggest though that with an MG squad, building are the best spots for them, otherwise instead of right clicking on an enemy, just set up the mg squad and they will take care of the rest. If you right click, then they will try and follow a retreating enemy. I think it's less the AI, and more the PI.

Wow what a difference this patch makes in frame rate with a 7950 GX2 every thing maxed at 1280 x 1024 looks very good!

I really like the game, but I find it to be hard (but I'm a below-average RTS player). The AI does seem to cheat in my mind.

If for nothing else, you should buy this game because it has no assinine CD checks. Relic and THQ should be supported for making this decision.

Hmm, this game has some pathfinding and general AI issues. For one, the AI doesn't quite understand the concept of range and personal space. Tanks have a tendency to bunch up and create chokepoints and when you tell a tank to attack an enemy, it'll often drive right up to the enemy before firing at point blank range. Same applies to infantry. Nothing quite as annoying as seeing a heavy machine gun squad slowly pack up their gear, literally run into an enemy rifle squad, then slowly unpack their gear and start firing. Mortar squads also have serious problems judging distance. Tell them to attack something and they'll pack up their gear, move a centimeter forward, unpack their gear, pack their gear up again, move another centimeter, unpack, pack, move another centimeter, rinse and repeat.

Finally, on Normal difficulty, the enemy AI seems a whee bit oblivious. If you unleash mortars on enemy squads and they can't physically see your units, they'll just stand there while getting obliterated. Also, antitank gun squads are similarly unaware. Maneuver a tank behind them and start blasting away because the antitank squad won't bother turning around.

Aside from the AI, I have some minor gripes. Why can't squads drop weapons that they've picked up? For example, if I order a squad to pick up a Panzershrek and then I want to have them switch to a heavy MG, why can't they just drop the Panzershrek and pick up the MG?

I also found the cutscenes a bit jarring. I'd be playing along and then suddenly the game would cut to a cutscene or map briefing. I'd prefer it if they just laid all this stuff on me before the mission started instead of interrupting me while I played.

In spite of these numerous flaws, I still find the game highly entertaining, no doubt due to the wanton destruction you can inflict on the environment. I'm just hoping that this patch resolves some of the AI issues.

Oh, I think the game may have a memory leak or something because after extended play, loading times increase exponentially and I get a lot of stuttering (and yes, I have more than 512 megs of RAM. Twice as much, in fact).

The best single player campaign in an RTS since Starcraft. In fact, it may even beat it! The game is absolutely incredible. The SP game actually made me feel for my soldiers...I'm not shitting you. It sounds corny, but I was pissed whenever any of them died. The soundscape is amazing, the chatter is dead on, and actually means something. There were a couple places in SP where I got big time chills. One of the maps wasn't great, but the rest rocked big time. The in game cut scenes are movie like in cinematograpy and direction.

This is a definite buy.

15 missions, I beat it in 2 days on Normal, but I have played multiplayer for a few weeks before that and the only time I had to reload was for when my game crashed.

Multiplayer is still laggy sometimes, if not all people load correctly then it takes a few minutes for the game to start. At least on ranked games.

Also playing at 1920x1200.
Left the game with all defaults set except phgyscis, which I cranked to high. (I think most were set to high anyway...)
Runs smooth in SP and MP. Not a huge RTS person, but this game is a lot of fun. MP is great.

runiing on:
athlon X2 4200+, 2 gig Corsair XMS DDR, BFG 7800 GT, X-FI extreme music, 7200 RPM 320 gig Seagate SATA II, BFG PhysX.

Multiplayer crashes sometimes when someone with a lsow connection takes to long to load the map, but that's it so far.

i'm a huge RTS fan, and yes, this game will go down in history as the next level in the genre. -definately- worth picking up.

i havn't played multiplayer yet, but have been playing single all night (played the demo to death).

i'm playing at 1920x1200, high/medium everything, antialiasing off (don't really need it at this res), and it's smooth. not sure if these settings will hold in a large multiplayer game or not, but they're fine for 1v1 vs. computer on hard.

i'm on my desktop, with a P4 3.2ghz, 2gb mem, AGP Nvidia 7800GS w 256mb vid ram.

zero crashes so far, but am pulling down the patch anyway.

the audio, graphics and gameplay in this are awesome. can't say enough good things about this game.

People with the full game, how is it?

In my opinion it is the best RTS game I have played. Though I am not a huge RTS player... having a crazy amount of fun playing this game. Stayed up late every night since release. First night I only got three hours sleep.

How's the single player campaign?

From the few maps I have played it basically starts as D-Day. Haven't had enough time to play past the first three. Been playing a few skirmish maps against the AI which isn't tough except on Expert setting. Though it may be that I am just learning the game well enough now to counter anything the German AI can throw at me. On Expert it seems as if the AI cheats since I find it hard to believe they could produce so many troops and vehicles so quickly (though I am probably wrong).

At this point I am playing my favorite (Allied Armor Company) most of the time and checking out the skirmish maps, which seem to be a bit short in number. Wish they would have made more maps. Not sure about a map editor but I pray they are going to release one if they haven't already.

Decent length?

Funny thing is I never play the single player campaign in any RTS I buy. I always play skirmish and/or on-line multi-player matches. I haven't read anywhere what the official number of single player missions is.

Fun missions?

***** Slight spoiler if you haven't already seen Saving Private Ryan or half of the WWII films out.*****

So far it was the beach-head from the demo, an Airborne road seizer map and now Carentan. All of the maps are multi-part story driven missions. I haven't got to the demo part of Carentan. You have to take the town first it appears. My favorite moment so far is flanking an MG42 placed in a second story building and throwing a sachel charge into the building and then watching the building crumble to the ground. Great fun.

Does it run at all well?

I have it set to 1440x900 (wide-screen) with everything maxed though the game didn't recommend these settings it seems to run great. These are my specs...

Hanns-G HW191D (LCD Monitor)
AMD Athlon 64 X2 4200+ (Dual Core)
2GB of OCZ Ram (Can't remember the specific type)
7900 GT CO (256MB GDDR3 PCI-E)
SB X-Fi Platinum (damned good sound card)
Sony DVD Rom (DRU-820A)
ASUS A8N-SLI Premium (not using SLI mode yet, don't really see a need, but want to have that option should I get the desire)
2x 250G WD 7200 SATA2 16MB (WD2500KS-OEM, they're running in a RAID 0 set-up)
