BF2 Patch Today

EA sends word they are gearing up to release the version 1.4 patch for Battlefield 2 today. Here are the patch notes for the update to DICE's military shooter sequel, which do not exactly jibe with the recent EA Forums Patch 1.4 Statement from DICE:
GAMEPLAY TWEAKS

- The vehicle drop has been modified to help prevent exploits such as blocking enemy vehicles, destroying vehicles and commander assets, or as an alternative to artillery.
- C4 tossing distance has been reduced.
- A prone->crouch delay has been added.

BUG FIXES

- Fixed the Linux server hangs when trying to load a Special Forces Co-Op map.
- Another attempt at fixing the Red/Blue nametag bug.
- Fixed the missing server info on the map briefing screen.
- Fixed the server browser issues with updating info.
- Fixed the filter by maps size option in the server browser.
- Fixed a low reproducibility crash bug related to the vehicle drop.
- Fixed a crash in Co-op after a player is revived without a kit.
- Fixed a server crash on Linux 32 when trying to rotate maps in Coop Mode.
- Fixed the occasionnal red distance marker appearing on the ground.
- Fixed the bug that caused the player's arms to become invisible when switching weapons.
- Co-Op bot console commands now function on local servers.
- Fixed the excessive damage taken by the Muscle Car.
- Adjusted the minimum number of players to start the round on ranked servers.
The new values for 16, 32 and 64 players are 6, 8 and 8 respectively.
- Re-enabled unlocks on unranked servers.
- Commander options are no longer available whilst commander is dead.

as far as i have gathered from friends playing the 2142 beta..(and stuff i have read off of random boards)::

2142 has vehicle issues in the beta.. some of the vehicles take damage while going over flat terrain, the support gun is useless, a few completely useless unlocks on your way to slightly useful items, a horrible sniper rifle (the aim bounces up and down.. but to be fair, snipers are useless anyhow), an anti-armor wep that goes 100% through the vehicle and doesnt damage it, randomly exploding motherships, and seemingly random damage to people and vehicles.

however, my coworker said that despite the many bugs/issues, the game is actually fun. he clamors on about the mothership fights and how it reminds him of Tribes.
he even showed me a fraps vid he took of his defending the big ship.
it kinda did look fun. i hate to admit it.

i guess if they can polish up some of the problem areas it could be worth it for a low price. i guess, if they wouldve fixed BF2 properly at first..well, never mind that..

I got a new video card so tried to play this again on the weekend.

I don't know what has happened to it, but I guess everyone was right; they really f@#$ed this game up. The balancing is terrible now compared to what it is, the lag has not improved at all, and it's just riddled with problems.

Basically was an advertisement of why not to buy Battlefield 2142, which is a shame because I was looking forward to it.

Is this game out of beta yet?

Very odd, as I had thought each term held the other's meaning.

hehehe I just remember "jive turkey" in movies. Always hilarious when it is used.

Is it "jibe" or "jive"?

I always thought it was jive?
Maybe it is an East Coast vs Midwest thing?

Cue "Airplane" reference.

Seriously, though, for me - it's "jive". To "jibe" would be a bit more... antagonistic? So, perhaps the notes do "jibe", or contradict... okay, never mind.

I just looked up both words on dictionary.com, and it appears Blue's usage was correct. Jive: to talk nonsense, or to kid; to talk or chat; to cajole, mislead.
Jive(3): to be in harmony or accord; to agree.

Very odd, as I had thought each term held the other's meaning.

WTF, they already "reduced" the C4 tossing distance. God I hate the little whining girls in this game. They will keep nerfing anything that someone will become adept at while that little scumbag in Texas selling hack services for the game keeps getting rich.

I rarely bitch about this game but this is just getting ridiculous.

The new values for 16, 32 and 64 players are 6, 8 and 8 respectively.

What is the point of this change?

I would asssume that it's meant to make stat manipulation a little harder. A higher number of min players makes it less likely that players/buddies will help each other gain rank indefinitely.

Oh yeah, it's almost like an ongoing soap opera with the nametag bug. I booted up BF2 just to play with some college friends over the weekend and I was still hitting pretty regularly with each game.

They actually have made one than one attempt at this?
