Labor Day Q&As

  • Winterheart's Guild
    Winterheart's Guild Q&A on Frags.com.ar talks with Zelian Games about their upcoming action/RPG game inspired by the Finnish band Sonata Arctica: "Before we approached Sonata with the idea, we actually had a 50 page design document done already, so Tony said he was happy with everything. He made a few suggestions and we got input from Henrik and Jani as well, but mostly the design was done already. Now it’s mostly if they have any cool ideas we try to implement them. We also gave them free range to do voices, and of course the music. So the voices are adlib, and completely their own dialogue, but it sounds very natural and cool."
  • EVE Online
    EVE Online Q&A on TenTonHammer is an article-format Q&A with CCP covering a discussion of EVE Online's recent S&L-style that saw investors in a virtual bank lose their virtual deposits.
  • Penny Arcade

Hmm, a game inspired by a Scandinavian prog metal band... something tells me this game is going to be very popular with a sizeable forum-dwelling population...

Not to mention the millions of fans they have worldwide or people who like Diablo style action RPGs.

This is actually my favorite band, so I have been following the games development since it was conceived. At first I thought "Oh God, not another Ed Hunter game" but now it seems like they have taken the concept and come up with a fairly cool game idea.

Actually Sonata Arctica is from Finland

And Finland is in Scandinavia. (ok, not according to the strictest definition, but the popular definition includes it)

How can you like Planescape Torment, but not include Baldur's Gate in some capacity?

Why not? They are radically different settings and have quite different gameplay. I myself like torment much better than BG, frankly I think it's a bit overrated these days. I don't think it holds up as well as fallout and torment do. BG2 is a bit better, but I've still never been able to finish BG.

the designer certainly has his gaming background references all in order for a good rpg ("My favorite game of all time is PLANESCAPE TORMENT, followed by FALLOUT 1 and 2. Other games I enjoyed were HEROES of MIGHT AND MAGIC, as well as the MIGHT AND MAGIC SERIES... the first DOOM... DEFENDERS of the CROWN... ELITE, MORROWIND, and OBLIVION, WARCRAFT 3 and WORLD OF WARCRAFT... HALF LIFE 2" ) ;

as for Sonata Arctica, mp3 clips http://www.sonataarctica.info/index.php?mp3&en reminded me of credit-scroll music played at the end of english translations of various anime series on cartoon channel.
