Out of the Blue

I could just copy yesterday's OotB here again, as I have the same status report on our phone lines. More rain, and another crossed line dialing 911 on its own, this time at 3:30 am. Thankfully its dry today, giving us the chance to enjoy the outdoors, and giving the local police the opportunity to attend to more important matters than visiting us for no reason.

WOW...just found that when I opened the web browser. I'm rather shocked...always assumed he'd die by croc.

What I liked about him was that he was just this big gregarious dude who did't mind looking like a jackass, he was having too much fun at it to worry about what peole thought (he sort of berated his countrymen when he was criticised by some as being too "corny" of an aussie). People talk about "living on the edge" but this guy seemed like he truly did. Ya gotta respect that.

Re Bottle Rocket out-the-ass guy: now this guy is the complete flipside of Steve Irwin. Why didn't THAT motherf**ker get impaled through the chest with something...? There is no God.....

OK, fine, you can take a screen shot then crop it with Paint. Are you happy?

The Print Screen button on the keyboard makes Windows take a screen shots. Alt-Print Screen makes it take of only the active window. Then you just open any graphics program (even Paint works just fine) and then do a paste.

Screenshots are a great way of explaining to users how to perform various tasks in computer programs. They're not foolproof though, I had one user try and click the screenshot itself and complain that my instructions weren't working ;P.

Goes to show you that no matter how idiot-proof you try and make something, they can always build a better idiot.

Every once in a great while I find the need to take a screen shot, and I use an old screen shot program (a newer version of it is http://tinyurl.com/o92ae , although there are probably cheaper and better programs out there)

Every once in a great while I find the need to take a screen shot, and I use an old screen shot program (a newer version of it is http://tinyurl.com/o92ae , although there are probably cheaper and better programs out there), and it works really well, and is REALLY simple. The best part about it is that it allows users to define an exact part of the screen to take a shot of, if they so desire. Great for bragging about mini-game scores!

And Dan, I have known a guy that is a decent computer programmer in two different languages that did not know how to take a screen shot in Windows.

I don't. Never needed to and frankly, I'm OK with that.

I hate stingrays, they’re oceanic landmines!

My brother and I were vacationing in Mexico earlier this year and we both got zapped. It was literally my brother's first step into the pacific when he got nailed. We were at a resort in Puerto Vallarta and when asked what we should do, one of the locals jokingly said he was going to die.

My brother went to the resort doctor for treatment; he was okay and back in action later that day. Later that week, I was snorkeling very close to two large black rays with white spots. They were about the size of my torso, very cool looking, but I was too close knowing now what happened to the Crocodile Hunter.

I got stung on my last day, and I knew it was a stingray because the bastard was still hanging from my surf sock when I pulled my foot out of the water. It was a smaller ray, about the length of my foot, and the barb was about the length of my pinky finger. It went right through my footwear as if it was butter (thin rubber), but it stung at an angle and that helped to reduce the puncture, which was only about a quarter inch.

Up in Canada, I've been stung or bit by pretty much everything capable of it (no bears though), I didn't panic or anything. A crowd of onlookers quickly gathered at the beach after I carefully took off my shoe and showed everyone what a stingray looked like up close. I then grabbed the ray by the base of the tail and yanked, freeing the ray from my shoe. I have personal experience that Stingrays can travel on land if they absolutely have to because this thing quickly shuffled itself back to the ocean. The onlookers in the way of it were hilarious; I’ve never seen a grown man suddenly turn into an eight-year old girl :).

The puncture itself felt like a burning wasp sting, I just soaked it, didn't bother with the doctor. If you're nailed in the foot, you're supposed to soak it in hot water (as hot as you can tolerate) for up to a half-hour, helps to break down the venom.

I went back to Canada later that day. My brother and I are now stingray-brothers; we even have a handshake where we each stab a finger into the back of the other’s hand.

WOW...just found that when I opened the web browser. I'm rather shocked...always assumed he'd die by croc.

Too bad...as crazy as he was, he was about the welfare of animals, and teaching people about them. And his craziness helped with that. It got people's attention and drew them in.

A shame he's gone...

He got into hot water when he dangled his baby over a crocodile too... but nonetheless he did a lot to bring wildlife programs back from the rather "Natural History Museum" style that they had become under legends such as David Attenborough. I saw a few, and they were very fun, as well as being educational. It's a shame, but unfortunately a predictable one.
