Call of Juarez MP Demo Next Week

Techland announces they will release a multiplayer demo for Call of Juarez next week to accompany the recently released single-player demo for the wild western first-person shooter (story). Here's word:
Poland, Wroclaw 22.08.2006. Techland announced today that just in the next week the MP demo of its upcoming FPP Wild West themed shooter – “Call of Juarez”™ will be available on the net.

The demo will contain two game modes – Skirmish and Robbery located in typical Old West’s towns and players will be able to impersonate both outlaws and sheriffs and play in two available classes for each team, as a Gunslinger or a Rifleman.

In the full version of the game :

    • 4 multiplayer modes: Deathmatch, Skirmish, Goldrush and Robbery.
    • 4 player classes with individual characteristics and weaponry: Gunslinger, Rifleman, Miner, Sniper.
    • Maps with diversified gameplay characteristics requiring: smart tactics, team cooperation, fast draw and sharp eye.

Move yourself to The Wild West, times of duels in the high noon, bank robberies and gold rush. Face the legendary gunslingers and professional killers, take part in spectacular gunfights and horseback chases. In single player campaign the player will play the role of two opposing heroes, with different weaponry and fighting styles. Billy is a rebel and a brawler who was accused of murder and now tries to escape the punishing hand of law. Reverend Ray is a former gunslinger, who deserts the church and takes an oath to deliver the justice to Billy, and all the criminals he stumbles upon, by a gun bullet. During the game, player will have to make decisions in the blink of an eye to get away as Billy or to catch him as Ray.

Call of Juarez is made of authentic western situations such as: trek through vast and wild North American territories, teaming up with Native Americans, brawls in saloons, gunfights and some fun in a local brothel. Game allows players to use world’s objects as melee weapons or tools to solve logic puzzles.

In multiplayer mode, gamers will take part in typical western situations, such as: train and bank robberies, ambushing criminals, chases, liberating prisoners and town gunfights. Call of Juarez uses third installment of the Chrome Engine. Graphics, AI and multiplayer mode will immerse you in the Wild West as never before.

It also seems like these episodes (levels) are totally independent of each other and as if there is no coherent story (as usual *sigh*).

I got that disconnected feeling from the demo as well, but I have a feeling that in the actual game, those two storylines will dovetail eventually.

I agree -- if this is priced low, I'll probably pick it up just because the demo didn't completely suck.. it's a little rough around the edges here and there, but you can certainly do a lot worse, and there just aren't enough Western-themed games out there.

Interested to see how it does in the reviews..

Disagree with the Potato Dude. I somehow missed the release of the SP demo when it came out and just downloaded it today.

Was pleasantly surprised by the very HQ graphics and overall rather polished feel of the game.
Both missions manage to convey the Wild West theme in a totally satisfactory manner and the horse riding in mission #2 is pure fun as well.

What I did not like was the limited freedom (for example, you should've been able to kill that rancher where you need to steal the saddle) including the freedom of movement (it does feel a bit too much like a game on rails).

It also seems like these episodes (levels) are totally independent of each other and as if there is no coherent story (as usual *sigh*).

That's certainly a pity. It would seem like there's so much potential with the different "factions" like Indians, criminals, sherrifs (the law) etc that if the game allowed for more freedom and more choices, it could be totally awesome to play through an RPG-like story where you either follow your own agenda or side with a certain faction.
What would also be great would be a Star Wars-like light/dark or good/evil system that would determine how 'wanted' you are by the law (how cool would that be to find your own wanted poster with a dynamically changing/increasing bounty in towns?).

Well, yeah, that's what would turn this game from 'pretty cool' to 'awesome' IMHO. In its current state, I'd pick it up if it would retail between US$ 19.99 and 29.99 but not at full price. Too many other great games coming up this fall (like Gothic 3, NWN 2, Anno 1701 et al) so can't waste cash on a pretty ordinary game like this one.

I thought the demo was pretty good too, but the load times were horrible. Hopefully they can fix that before release.

admittedly looking forward to the game less since they are *not* including co-op as originally stated by the demo

Their polish to english dictionary just doesn't cover gaming. They saw "co-op" to mean playing with other ppl with a common objective (read: PvP mp), as well as their use of the word "impersonate" to mean "play as." I don't know why foreign devs generally can't throw $10 to a high skool student to proof, but they sure don't. It's been a while since I looked, but Webzen's site used to be a pretty mind numbing treat. If Webzen had hired the Techland guys to proofread their stuff, they'd be 10x better off.

The SP demo had the worst loading times since the days of "Press 'PLAY' on Cassette 'A'"

Was pretty fun though once you managed to get it loaded up, but if they've ditched co-op then I no longer give a rat's ass about this one..

On another note, I've suddenly got this spare rat's ass if anyone needs one.

I am also looking forward to this game. Im just not a fan of the specular highlighting on the foreheads.

but I am looking forward to it nonetheless. the demo was very entertaining in its own right. looking forward to the multi demo next week.

I must be the only one here who is looking forward to this game. I don't think the characters look "plasticy" at all. I think it's going to be alot of fun. I loved the Sp demo.

why do ALL next gen characters look like badly molded plastic action figures?

technically its because they put too much specular highlightin g on the character face material. I think they do that because it makes the characters stand out more agains the background.. but it does make the characters look plastic-y. I think they could stand to tone down the specular.

Wasn't this game recently pushed back to 2007? Odd time to be releasing a demo if that's the case.

Not "all" do, just the ones that choose to save processing power by having specular, but no specular map... which is completely insane for a character and makes them look like plastic.
