Out of the Blue

A comment or two from those unfamiliar with the Dog Whisperer came up when I mentioned him the other day (I can relate because I didn't know who he was when I first saw him satirized on South Park some time back). I'll just offer my opinion that anyone who owns a dog should watch his show on the National Geographic channel. This man has a gift for dog training that goes well beyond his own abilities: his ideas and methods are so straightforward and logical that they are easily picked up an put into use at home, so it's not one of those situations where it looks easy on TV but doesn't work for you. My dogs are very well behaved to start with, but watching the show made a few things that needed addressing clear, and it was so simple, quick, and painless getting the pooches in line with the program I feel like I owe him money.

For some reason though, this CNN article has really pissed me off.
It's because it's an awful article, badly researched and in a very tedious writing style.

It would be nice if they actually showed what the heck the new product looked like without actually having to order a freaking sample. Come on, a diagram or two showing how it works isn't too much to ask, is it?

Not to throw you guys off subject or anything, well maybe, but have any of you seen the new release "Running Scared"? I picked it up on a whim the other day as most of the movies out now suck balls and wow, it's pretty good, and has the whole max payne theme thing going on pretty well. You'll understand what I mean when you watch it. It's definitely not safe to have kids around while watching as there is full frontal nudity while they are at the strip club and lots of killing and cussing. I don't want to spoil anything so I'll shut up from here but if you're bored this is definitely a good flick.

For those of you who have not played Galactic Civilizations II yet, I highly recommend you do NOT! I have been playing it so much lately it is like an addiction!

Little late on that warning; I've already lost several nights to 'just one more turn'.

Can't wait for them to fix the miniaturization techs in the next beta patch (FYI: due to rounding the last two techs often cause a loss in hull space on larger hulls).

Was this the same cat you rescued as year or two ago?

Waffles. But it was not her, it was my other cat, Tweek (yes named after the South Park character).

For those of you who have not played Galactic Civilizations II yet, I highly recommend you do NOT! I have been playing it so much lately it is like an addiction! I swear not an hour ago I was so confused form playing it so much that I got ready and drove to where I have an appointment at the corresponding time…Monday! I really thought today was freakin’ Monday. To say I feel "strange" is an understatement. Maybe I got a brain tumor.

Wanker. I've nothing to say how pathetic you are. It's beyond me. I bet your dogs love you though. Wanker. Hey let's hope those dogs don't have to choose between you, an ATOMIC bomb and your kids with leprosy. ANY of the other three could kill you but if your dogs ate them all you'd win and you'd only have to bury the losers. YAH!!! Oh... wanker.

Was that in English?

Make no mistake, if the dogs where actually hurting my dog he would have hurt them…badly, he has just been trained to be gentle, and if they where actually hurting him (or trying to attack me…my dog would have killed them) when I was trying to stop them I would have hurt them….really badly.

I hear you on that one. The title of the article is very misleading. "Rescue" physics? Rescue it from what, physics research does not seem to be in danger of anything here. I hate misleading headlines, but I hate them more when it has to do with science.

Yeah, that is right…you mess with the dog and the cat will attack you.

I believe that. Some cats can be extremely loyal, and if they think one of their peers is in danger, they'll jump right into the fray...

Not all cats, for sure. But I've seen a few that are very protective.

Was this the same cat you rescued as year or two ago?

Who knows there might have been part of the fence missing?

Because the driver wasn't shown to have swerved into a place where there was any fence that was missing, nor did it show the driver making any drastically sweeping turns to avoid anything.

Two things, metal link fences don't quite return to shape as easily as sheets. Granted it could go back to such a position that it looks as if the fence is intact if not viewed in proper light etc, but the thing is the camera view that's there isn't clear. For one it's a grainy video, two it's at night and three the getaway driver drives through a load of dirt kicking up dust lowering visibility even more.

Who knows there might have been part of the fence missing?

Anyway the second thing is about this ILC the US are considering on building. I'm sorry but how FAR from facts can that article get? To quote the article:
scientists will need the more precise measurements of the ILC to fully answer them

I'm sorry but there is no way the measurements would be more precise. A particle accelerator does what it says on the tin. It accelerates electrons to stupidly fast speeds then smaashes them into a wall. Just because the ILC would be larger (and thus possibly accelerate the particles to higher speeds) does not mean the measurements would be more accurate. All it means is that it could possibly see particles that require very high energy to exist. For some reason though, this CNN article has really pissed me off. I guess I'm just sick of this "US has to be the best at everything and have the largest everything in the world".

Odds are he was just trying to run the fence over (I mean, those kind of fences are nothing to a car).

Yeah, I was thinking along the same lines. The swerving and sliding turn-arounds the guy made looked like he had done those before and had selected that particular fence to run through.

It almost seems like the driver had that fence rigged to be able to go through it. Neat escape but it looked choreographed (at least on the driver's part).

If the fence was not secured along the bottom where the ground is properly (and there are lots and lots of fences like that, not done properly) then the car would just drive through it, the fence would go over the car (scratching it) like going through a sheet hanging on a clothes line. After he got through, it would have fallen back into place, and all the dust helps conceal it. Odds are he was just trying to run the fence over (I mean, those kind of fences are nothing to a car).

Bah! You should have started watching it months ago when I and nin and somebody else was discussing it in OotB.

Speaking of dogs, I had a funny thing happen this morning involving my dog and cat. So we here this ruckus outside and one of my cats screaming so me and Noodle (my dog) go out to see what is going on. Two dogs (one black and one white, some small terrier bread) had gotten loose and chased my cat into the back yard. My cat was now separated by a fence to the dogs and was screaming and growling and hissing like hell at them. I go to look at the dogs collars so I can try and call the owner so they can come get them. The dogs start sniffing my dog and everything is cool for like 10 seconds then they decide to attack him. He is defending him self and I am kicking them off (and kicked on a good 8 feet) but they come running back for more……the next thing I know my cat comes to the dogs “rescue” (who did not need any, he was just being gentle and trying to stop them, he had no desire to hurt them and boy could he if he wanted to or they actually hurt him). I mean, out of nowhere my cat jumps back over the fence and is charging and jumps onto the back of one of the dogs.

Yeah, that is right…you mess with the dog and the cat will attack you. That cat loves his dog. It was too damn funny, god I wish I had that on video.

So there I was trying to stop two dogs from attacking my dog, while my dog was defending himself and then I had to save the dogs attacking my dog from my cat.

And that was the first thing I did when I woke up (I was woke up by the noise), around 7:30 this morning.

Make no mistake, if the dogs where actually hurting my dog he would have hurt them…badly, he has just been trained to be gentle, and if they where actually hurting him (or trying to attack me…my dog would have killed them) when I was trying to stop them I would have hurt them….really badly. But it was just a little tiff, no different then kids on the playground. Just the cat coming to help his dog was fucking hilarious.

*edit* And by kick I mean put my foot against them and make a kicking motion. I did not impact them with a kick, just push. They where not hurting me or my dog (no matter how hard they tried) so I had no desire to hurt them....it was really not that big of a deal....even though some people make dog "fights" out to be.
