Battlefield 1942, while fun as hell, had some of the choppiest tech and netcode I've ever seen in a product. Somehow in Battlefield Vietnam this got much much worse, to the point that BF:V is still the only game I've thrown in the trash. BF2 came along and though the tech was significantly better, you can still see its oldschool BF1942 heritage in the hitscan/damage and general movement behaviors. The tech has improved, no doubt, but the core technology has persisted, and no matter how much people hope, BF2142 is going to share that same core code, and thus is going to have the same damn issues this franchise has had all along.
Don't get me wrong - I've put significant hours into all the Battlefield products, including 400+ hours into Battlefield 2, but every step of the way has been a love-hate relationship.
