Battlezone II Patch

Battlezone II version 1.3pb3 is now available as a another user-created patch for Battlezone II, the action/strategy hybrid. This homebrew update (albeit created by a couple of ex-Pandemic developers) is an effort to advance the essentially abandoned project, but as such, is an unofficial, unsupported, as-is, don't come crying to me if you bust your game sort of a release. All dire warnings aside, word on the update is: "The new version includes enhanced modification support, Win2K/XP/DX8&9 compatibility, bug fixes, a new audio system, graphics tweaks, bots in deathmatch, and still more."

It's available from Amazon (and I guess elsewhere). One of the version played these days is ZST, which is basically tweaking the multiplayer strat side of the game.

These two sites may be of some help:

Loved playing MPI BZ2 with a friend, those bots can be ruthless sometimes... Still have my cdrom so I might have to install this to check it out. I know the last 1.3 beta I didn't like very much cause of the movement changes. Made it almost impossible to dodge ANY shots, especially the AI when your up against a bunch of enemies you can't dodge any hits due to much slower speed...

Im going to reinstall now! I still have BZ1 and BZ2 discs in my cd binder. I used to play BZ1 online all the time back when it came out - then the community kinda died down and there was only like 4 players online =(

Wish I stil had my CD =(

I had trouble even FINDING it to buy around here.

Methinks I'm going to have to take the abandonwarez route for this one.

I still play this game every now and then. BZ2 did a really good job at combining FPS with RTS, and command any unit you wanted (assuming you could get to it, or vice versa). wow new maps too! I gotta reinstall this.

The 1.3 patch has been in development since September/October 2001, headed by two programmers from the Battlezone II team: Ken Miller, Nathan Mates

Nice.

34? Punk.

(I'm 35)

I wonder if Battlezone 1 could be updated - that game was great.

This homebrew update
That description is misleading as this is not just any user-created update. The two authors of this update were developers for the game at Pandemic.

Tony!!!

Battlezone (both the original, which introduced me to the third dimension, IIRC, and the remake) is awesome. Games like this, great games, always manage to draw support from the fans long after the publishers and devs have moved on. The Myth series does the same thing...

I can't recall if I ever played Battlezone 2. I played the orginal Battlezone remake back in the day and that was a blast. Heck, I also played the 'Original' Battlezone when that came out. I guess that makes me pretty old? NAW, I'm only 34 and we all know that is the new 20.... right?
