BF2142: "A lot less buggy than Battlefield 2"

BF2142 producer vows 'less bugs than BF2' on Computer and Video Games gets the jump on their own upcoming interview with DICE producer Marcus Nilsson by offering one quote they thought stood out, as Marcus says they are setting the bar for Battlefield 2142 higher than that of BF2, promising the next installment in the military shooter series will have fewer bugs than BF2 (which is like being shot by fewer bullets than Sonny Corleone). He specifically says BF2142 will be "A lot less buggy than Battlefield 2 - and you can write that down," and also comments that they are working hard on achieving the delicate balance such a game requires, and that BF2142 will offer a faster-paced style of play than the earlier Battlefield games.

Those looks poor? What exactly are you expecting? The second coming of the Christ?
Considering this is a BF2 thread I was hoping for something that looked better, not a step backwards.
BF2 is a MMOFPS but you don't pay anything to play, except for the game itself.
BF2 is a glorified version of TFC, in so much that it's just a modded FPS. It's still usually 32 players, going up to 64 players - this was talking about hundreds and I just wondered, what with the popularity of MMORPGs and all, whether this would head down a similar direction. When you have so many player it will fundamentally change the gameplay and its focus, so it will be very different to games that have come before it.
Ur, why not? Bohemia was the same company who dev'd Operation Flashpoint, man. If you've ever played that game you'll know exactly where I'm coming from.
I wasn't desperately impressed by that game... it just never really grabbed me. The sequel looks much better and the scale could make it really enjoyable but it doesn't amaze me at the moment.

The gameplay looks like it has potential but the graphics look pretty poor.

that might not matter with 100+ troops/tanks/helicopters on the battlefield. I hope it doesn't end up being a MMOFPS as I don't want to pay monthly

I'll certainly be keeping my eye on it but I'm not holding my hopes high.

So, with no public proof and his word. What if it has more bugs? Will we get refunds?

Save your money and time. Go outside and sit in the sun, read a book or do something more useful and play this piece of shit.

How are they getting less bugs? Are they having less features? No running and no shooting in this mod? Are we going to be able to drop Mercs on people's heads in this mod?

So if it has every single bug that BF2 has minus just one, then techincally its "less buggy".

Hurray for the red teammate bug while in a mech! I bet that's one that won't get fixed.

Its a shame that Tribes, just like Elvis... is dead. :'(

Do not turn this wonder full series into the crap Unreal Tournament series. Tribes 1 and 2 were slower paced, BF1942 and BF2 are the right speed.

Tribes Vengeance was crap. Not because of speed, but that fact that they changed so much about the game, they completely changed jump skiing to some kind of crappy snow skiing and they made the bad choice of making it on the Unreal 2 engine ugh. They watered it down to a console type of game. Not worhty of the Tribes name one bit. If you knew anything about Tribes, you would know there are two styles of gameplay. The more warfare style that played at a similair pace as BF but faster with jetpacks and all. Battlefield plays way slower than Tribes. Then there was Tribes 1 and Tribes 2 classic style of playing that was intensly fast in an almost sporty kind of way. Nothing compares in that style. Nothing.

Now if realistic warfare gameplay is what you are looking for BF2 was still a console game compared to the earlier mentioned Operation flashpoint. Their new game Armour assualt operation flashpoint looks to be amazing. Check out the video at the link below.

NOOOOOOOOO!

Tribes Vengeance got a lot faster and absolutely destroyed the franchise

Making games faster only gives the edge to twitch younger gamers, and sucks.

I am afraid that BF2142 is going to be too similar to Unreal, god I hope not.

There is no caveat attached to the quote. It just stands on its own. There is no "It will be less buggy, OR...."

He just says "It will be less buggy." (Actually, he says less bugs, which should be FEWER bugs, but what can you expect from a game producer who works for EA.)

Hey, today, I will run 50 miles in the 97 degree heat.
Okay, so actually I won't, but what are you gonna do, right? When BF2142 comes out, and it's hideously bugged, the producer will either

A) Shrug. After all, he just made an empty quote. He never said what he'd do if it wasn't.
B) Make a statement like, "Well, BF2 had 783 confirmed bugs. 2142 only has 714! See? A lot fewer bugs!"

And that would make his statement true. So in the end, this is a bullshit 'promise' that won't mean anything. BF2142 will be bugged to hell. Probably as bad or WORSE than BF2.

Why?

Because all you monkeys keep buying it. Seriously. How many of you were on here bitching about the bugs when BF2 was just released? And yet you kept playing it. You went out and bought it. Because it was "so much fun!"

Now, a year later, you're all bitching that the game is still bug infested and needs more patches, and it's no fun etc etc etc.

And none of you realise that it's BECAUSE YOU FUCKING BOUGHT THE GAME WITH SO MANY BUGS, that EA will simply keep on doing this.

EA COULD squash (most of) the bugs, sure. But why would they? It costs a lot of money to do thorough bugtesting / elimination. And all the BF fanboys have already shown that they will buy a product in as fucking pathetic a state as BF2 anyways. So they will release it buggy, and people will bitch, and people will still buy it, thereby perpetuating the cycle you so vehemently bitch about.

Maybe, just maybe, if you all STOPPED buying games that are that buggy, publishers would wisen up their act a little. Ever think of that?

Creston

Ive seen this at Microsoft and its very rampant there. It's called being "VISIBLE". Thats how they get rated. On their commitments in "MyMicrosoft" from Lisa Brummel's spout hole. Being Visible and being very SUPPORTIVE and ARSE LICKING is the way to fame and riches especially if you are a manager. This is how software development works and most products suck shit (date driven and the self praise distortion field)

Almost any game is a lot less buggy than Battlefield 2. So anybody could've made that statement about any game. That's a very bad sounding PR, basically it's like saying buy our stuff because it's better than shit.
