Into the Black

I actually made it to the movies today, as Enahs pointed out in the forums I plan on doing this far more often than I succeed. The movie was great: A bit darker than the Chris Reeve versions, and of course requiring of some plot tolerance, but Singer has the touch for superhero movies, and has added a move from the Sam Raimi playbook by creating scenes that are perfect reproductions of classic comic book images, most notably the cover of Action Comics #1. The theater experience was lousy though... Some talkers, some squirmy kids, someone who kept checking the time on their light-up cellphone, someone who answered a cell call in the middle of the show (after letting it audibly ring a second time so he could determine who was calling, no less), and a point when someone leaned on the wrong button in the projection booth and the movie stopped for a while in favor of the filler they play between showings. There was even a blotch on the screen throughout, which is the second time I've had a visual imperfection on the screen at this same multiplex. That will also be the final time for this place, because if I decide to brave the ever-more-disappointing movie theater experience again in the future, it will be at a different venue. Just a sign of how enjoyable the movie was that none of that could even come close to ruining the experience.

Are you fucking serious?

Of course not. I really enjoyed the movie.

I just picked up Syriana on DVD myself and I have to say it's a good film, goddamn good film.

I really enjoyed Syriana too. It was kind of one of those movies that came out of nowhere, I thought. Actually the past year was pretty decent for the release of political thrillers, what with Syriana, Munich, and The Constant Gardener having been released.

Did you by chance read the book See No Evil, written by Robert Baer, that the movie was based off?

Don't you people want a divorce from arguing with each other?

As for Superman Returns... it was in one word 'PERFECT!'. John Williams music makes a return and the guy they cast for Kent/Superman was also perfect in the role. Spacey as Lex was incredible. And while the movie was pretty dark, there were also some excellent comical moments that were just slipped into perfect conversations. George Lucas should watch this movie just to see how comedy in a serious movie should be done.

Just got back from seeing this and I got luckly. With the exception of one kid talking for 5 mins and the parents not beating them to death, the entire theater was dead silent except for well written comedy that was slipped into the movie like 'I thought there was 2 of them?' refering to the dogs.

Again if you have a good theater around, if you have to see 1 movie for your lifetime that is comic book related then I cannot suggest any other movie.

Not to mention the last 2 mins of the movie were a very fitting tribute to Reeves.

I have no idea if you are responding to me

No.
You did not insult Brent per say, you just thanked him for providing something you think is crap. I was responding to Acleacius who is just down right insulting him.

I also think that's it right to point out that this article is Propoganda.

No. It is a response, there is a difference. The movie is propaganda, by every definition of the word. One side/opinion/view on a particular subject. This is just a counter to it.

I have no energy or time to debate the whole global warming thing…if you want to be naive and believe everything you are told about or assume everybody that questions it is wrong, fine. Cool. That was not my problem at all.

This is very representative of how we get all of our news these days.

Lies and propaganda from one side get countered with lies and propaganda from the other side. Thats what fair and balanced is all about.

What would be nice would be actual reporting.

If you want to know what the lies and propaganda are, focus on the response from "congress".

It is a MAJORITY press release. It is a republican party press release made to look official. Its attempt to talk about the actual science discussed are repeats of talking points that have long since been disproven.

HOWEVER, when they talk about the general discussion of consensus calculations and especially the supposed reporting from the AP article, they are spot on. That AP article couldn't have been a bigger pile of shit.

I have no idea if you are responding to me but seriously what's up with the fair and balanced. When the majority of Scientists agree that Global Warming is an issue and a couple of scientists disagree there is no balance. Heck, when it comes down to it, there isn't even another side of the argument, only right and wrong.

Sure it's Blues page and I respect that, I also think that's it right to point out that this article is Propoganda.

've been eyeballing Boondock Saints and remembered the concensus here was that it was also worth getting.

I also really enjoyed Boondock Saints. I would not say that there is anything exceptionally good about it like The Usual Suspects. I can also see how many people would not like it; but I personally find it really enjoyable to watch. No way near the caliber of The Usual Suspects though.

I also highly recommend 13th warrior. Man I love that movie! In my top 10 of movies made in the past 10 years.

Dude you are pathetic. Attacking and insulting this poor Brent guy. Odds are he does not post here so he can not/will not defend him self. Does it make you feel like a big man insulting somebody who can not defend them selves? This is Blues page, Blue is responsible for what he post. If you are going to insult somebody it is only fair to insult Blue.

I am not even going to begin on how obtuse and clearly close minded and one sided and down right naive you are showing with your comments about the environment, understanding the news, how the real political world works, etc etc.

I am sorry Blue is being fair, you clearly do not want that. Blue has continually posted links here in the OotB about the Gore movie and pro Gore movie articles. I am sorry you have such a poor understanding of how science works that you can only take it when articles on the side you believe is right is posted but get your panties in a wad when Blue is just being fair and posting info about the other side. I am sorry your arguments are so weak that even the sheer link to an article opposing your believed sends you on a hissy fit of insulting because you have no knowledge to argue with it.

This might be mean and harsh, but you at least have a fair chance to respond and I am basing my insults of your comment. I am not just attacking somebody at random for no good damn reason….that is just pathetic as hell man.

I am done.

The earth increased one degree in the 1900s and Al Gore says we have a crisis. Then all the climatologists using computer models come along( who just incidentally want funds for research). The same crackpots who said global cooling 20-25 years ago.

Then of course every computer geek on his *intarnet* becomes an expert too...LOL.

Yeah I believe it...Maybe its time we acknowledge that human beings aren't nearly as destructive as nature itself-maybe a little humility.

I was wondering to myself in the theater about this entire thing... have people always been like this in the theater, or is it just that our tolerance for others has diminished?

I liked the movie, but from the obnoxious man in front of me who sounded like he was trying to hack up a quart of mucus every 5 minutes to the family who came in to the movie 10 minutes late (after 15 minutes of previews...25 minutes late for a movie?) and talked until they got themselves and their kids settled down, to the kids checking their brightly lit cell phones...

It was still one of the better cinema experiences I've had in the last two years, but it really made me acutely aware that I'd just rather watch movies at home now instead.

Yeah I don't know if Blue's intent was to let this bogus piece of crap that Brent sent as some sort of equal time time thing but if this is the best Brent can do maybe we should just be laughing.

The premise of this is that some people are stupid enough to believe these ad hominem comments or Brent is stupid enough to believe them?
Though I am not sure which cleary someone in the equaltion needs to be stupid the writers or delusional narcissist it feeds.

Its also for all the reasons that cinemas have declining sales.

I would pay more if I knew that the film i was going into, was:

  • Clean
  • No kids below 18
  • enforced cell phone ban
  • limited advertising
  • quality visual and sound reproduction with no screw ups
  • enforced no talking rule

  • 1st time I have ever used bullet points here, its a proud day

But yeah, the quality of my cinema experiance has been on a constant decline for years now. I say ill watch a film onm dvd but even my net flix subscription ive just trimmed back to one out per month, and that will prolly die off soon.

Not only is it the theatre going experiance, but its the quality of productions too, same goes for TV. Maybe its just me but if it wasent for the wife liking a couple of shows, I would happily cancel my tv subscription too.

I just returned from the movie and I absolutely loved it! This is THE BEST superhero movie ever made! I was soo pleased on how it stayed true to the original and I can't wait to see the future inevitable sequels. I hope this movie is a huge success and it gets all the recognition it deserves. Superman has definately returned to kick some ass!
