Enemy Territory: Quake Wars Preorder Plans

There's a new Enemy Territory: Quake Wars screenshot on IGN (thanks Frans), showing off Splash Damage's upcoming first-person shooter. The shot is accompanied by preliminary preorder details, saying that a preorder program will come in the end of July, with those who participate to receive the opportunity to register their usernames in advance along with some strategy tips.

Further proof that some people would still bitch even if they announced the game was FREE.

But this isn't free...

Yes, if the game were free and still had persistent tracking which was not optional, I would bitch because my complaint is not about the price.

Every game using a cdkey that needs to be validated stores your ip, for a short amount of time at least,
There is a huge difference between that brief IP tracking which only occurs while the user is actually playing on a game server at that moment and a persistant account which cumulatively tracks a user every time he plays the game and what he does while he plays, etc.

you are only basing your opinions on hype and marketing

I am basing my opinions on videos, screen shots and the amazing job Splash Damage did with Wolf:ET.

I personaly can not wait and want this game badly!

Why is that so wrong?

Did you know that 1 lb of yummy delicious ripe strawberries only has 146 calories,36g carbs, 9g fiber,3g protein,1g fat and 475% daily Vit.C? 1 Snickers bar has 280 calories,35g carbs,14g fat.Eat strawberries!

I agree. Pre-ordering is a great way to ensure a game is sold 100% on hype. I have not played a demo of this game, therefore everything I know about it is 100% from journalists. (and no doubt the videos are recorded on an SLI nvidia rig with liquid cooling)
Given that most game journos are of the 'omfg its da r0xx0r' variety, I'll reserve judgement until a fully playable demo of it is in my grubby hands.
AFAIK none of you have played this game, you are only basing your opinions on hype and marketing. Playable advance demos FTW.

*shrug*

I'm all for it. Registered, unique names never bothered me in Tribes 2, and they won't bother me here. Bring it on.

As for why that is a problem I prefer to play randomnly and anonymously when I play online not have to stick to the same character and worry about having to get X amount of points to be able to use certain weapons or abilities. If I wanted to do that, I would play MMO games

As I said, there will be no persistent unlocks of any kind, only skill upgrades during a short campaign that really doesn't alter the game play that much (a tiny bit better accuracy, bigger ammo packs, bigger health packs, charge bar that don't drain as fast etc). If you do like to be as anonymous as possible, do like the rest of us and use a spam mail account if it's required when signing up.

Will the system have us wait when logging in for 5 minutes? Fuck knows, lets see when the game is released without getting paranoid meanwhile. Every game using a cdkey that needs to be validated stores your ip, for a short amount of time at least, but just think about it, THEY MIGHT BE TRACKING YOU RIGHT NOW! OH GOD!

then go around servers griefing players to hurt your reputation.
Reputation?! LOL! Oh yes you wouldn't want the cool kids to think you're not cool.

Or maybe you miss getting on a server and seeing 3 players with the same name as you no matter how "unique" your name is, because they thought it was cool and stole it from you.
I have some shocking news for you. Your real name is mostly likely not unique either. Get over it.

You guys are idiots. I'll take this naming system over the shit we usually see. Maybe some of you miss having some asshat make a name JUST LIKE YOURS (clan tag and all), then go around servers griefing players to hurt your reputation. Or maybe you miss getting on a server and seeing 3 players with the same name as you no matter how "unique" your name is, because they thought it was cool and stole it from you.

Register mine, thank you.

He cut the possum's face off then cut around the eye socket. In the center of the belt buckle, where the possum's eye would be, he has placed a small piece of wood from his old '52 Ford's home made railroad tie bumper. Damn, he misses that truck.

Having to register means they can track you.
That is precisely the problem. It's just one more opportunity for companies to know how I spend my time and try to sell crap to me. I don't have to be a "Nielsen family" to watch television, and I sure as hell shouldn't have to be one to play video games online.

Another product to pre-order and then later becomes pushed back with a delay. Pre-ordering is such a scam.

Registered names with no persistent unlocks/ranks FTW!

The game has just moved from my "buy on sight" list to my "pre-order on sight" list.

The government is watching. Having to register means they can track you. They'll redflag you if you play as the Strogg too often!!!1!
