Prey Demo Next Week

GameSpot announces they will be premiering the demo for Prey on Wednesday June 21 at 9:00 pm Pacific time, which translates to the stroke of midnight Thursday for those of us on the U.S. east coast. Word is the sample of Human Head's DOOM 3-engine first-person shooter will offer one hour of gameplay and will include two multiplayer maps in addition to single-player mode. Further:
Defy the law of nature with gravity flipping, a feature that allows you to walk on ceilings and turns deathmatch mode upside-down. Explore unreachable areas with wall walking, and transport from one sphere to another through space-bending portals. With all these unique gameplay elements, you don't want to miss this highly anticipated FPS demo!

I don't think PlayTriton can be as bad as Steam. I've nothing against a one time only 5 second connection to validate my install key. Anything more than that and I'm going to get annoyed.
The problems with any activation system are how often do you have to re-activate, how often can you re-activate before you must purchase the game all over again, how reliable is the activation system (can you activate when you need to), and what is the failover system, i.e. if the activation servers disappear or aren't available, can you still play the game.

I seriously doubt that Triton will be any less restrictive and more flexible for the user than Steam or any of the other crappy online activation systems for other software. This is also one more nail in the coffin of the used/resale game market.
